Silver Pac-Man and Ghost Coins from Niue / Re-blog lottery!

The golden age of video games started in 1978 with games like Asteroids, Centipede, and of course Pac-Man. I was a young kid and remember my first time going to an arcade in the early 80's and playing some of these games. It was a lot of fun, but expensive at a quarter per play (back then quarter was actually worth something.) Then the classic Atari console came out and you could play at home, and those games were a lot of fun! It's mind boggling to compare today's games with these classic ones, but those classics started one of the biggest industries in history.

I was browsing around APMEX (a company that sell precious metals for those unfamiliar) the other day and came across one of the most bizarre and cool coins I had ever seen. The Pac-Man and Ghost coins from the old Pac-Man games! These are made for the island nation of Niue which I bet most of you didn't know existed. Until recently I would have fit into that category too...

Niue is smallish island located in the South Pacific not far from Samoa and Tonga. They are a constitutional monarchy with King Charles III as their current king. What's really interesting about them is they probably produce more commemorative coins that any other nation on the planet. Everything from Disney characters to video game characters and most everything else in between.

Pac-Man of course is yellow in color, so they make a silver variety and one in yellow as well. They also make a Ms. Pac-Man! The ghosts characters come in silver or colors as well for Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde (and no I didn't remember their names, I had to look them up!)

The middle picture you may have noticed is a stack of Pac-Men, the coins are built to be stackable for stackers! I don't own any of these and didn't know they existed until just recently but it might be fun to add some to my collection. These are a perfect fit for video game lovers who also like to collect/stack silver.

Haha, those are pretty cool. Definitely brings back some memories. We had a 2600 with the wood panel when I was growing up. It was pretty neat. I know the cool one was the 5200, but I still had a ton of fun with ours.

From a tiny South Pacific island! They literally produce more commemorative coins than anyone. I think it took me 70 pages of searching numista.com just to find these to get some good info. They have all sorts of weird and cool coins!

I wouldn't mind, but I'm not currently in buying mode on silver/gold. My health is forcing me to call it quits on my consulting so everything is going into retirement account until the end of the year. Damn COVID vaccine really messed me up! I probably won't be buying until January, but when I do I could order one up for you!
