Silver Hotel San Remo Las Vegas token / Re-blog lottery!

avatar
(Edited)

I love collecting Silver Striker tokens as most of you have noticed! Some of my favorites come from places that no longer exist. The skyline along the strip in Las Vegas is almost constantly changing. Old hotels and casinos get bought out and demolished only to be replaced by bigger and grander hotels and casinos.

The token I'm sharing to day I picked up years ago either on eBay or a pawn shop, I honestly don't remember. It originally came from a Silver Striker slot machine in the Hotel San Remo in Las Vegas. The hotel not longer exists as it was unable to stay profitable. It was around from 1989 until 2006 when it was purchased by Hooters. It was then completely refurbished and expanded and became the Hooters Casino Hotel. But not even Hooters lasted forever as it defaulted on loans and it was bought out by Oyo Hotel and Casino and 2019 and underwent further renovations and expansion. There's a lot of tough competition in the Las Vegas hotels and casinos and you have to beat out the competition to stay in business.

Like I said, Las Vegas changes constantly and every time I visit there's always something new!

About he token:

Casino: Hotel San Remo, Las Vegas, Nevada, US
Denomination: $10 Gaming Token value
Composition: 99.9% silver, surrounded by brass ring
Mint: Global Minting
Edge: Smooth
Obverse: Hotel San Remo logo
Reverse: Historic "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada" sign
Weight: About 0.6 troy ounces of silver

vegasforall.com

What I find cool about this token is that the hotel no longer exist and the reverse image of the iconic Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada sign. The sign was erected in 1959 and is one of the most recognizable features in Las Vegas. It stands only 25 feet tall and is located at the southern end of the Las Vegas strip. Although it's one of the oldest features in the city it's still one that people love to stop and take pictures with it. It's one of the few features that will likely never change in the ever changing city.

If you haven't had the chance to go to Las Vegas it's well worth the trip. There is literally something for everybody 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all 365 days of the year. Even if you don't gamble the shows, museums and restaurants are incredible!

Thanks for stopping by to read my post. If you have any suggestions, questions, or comments please feel free to leave them below. Thanks for all your support, I really do appreciate it!

I like the old casino tokens. I've bought a few over the years. Sweet one!

I like them too, I tend to buy a lot of them because they're just cool and usually inexpensive which is a bonus!

Hiya no idea the competition was that tough in Las Vegas!😮
I figured that most of the games were geared to make a profit for the casino from the get-go …..
This is a gaming token to hang onto, especially since the casino is no longer around !😇

It's very tough, apparently the current casino there the Oyo makes less than half it's profits from gaming. Most comes from hotel and restaurants. But they still pulled in sixty million in profits a couple years ago. A place like The Venetian probably gets seventy five percent profit from gaming but they are on the higher end price wise, a room there is like $400 a night...

Wow I had no idea!😮
Sounds like Las Vegas is evolving into an “everything” destination!😇😀

A hahaha, the hooters Casino. That place was a joke the first time I went there. I think they had cheap beer though and we got a voucher for $50 free play from the airport so we went anyway. I haven't had hooters wings in forever.

I never went to Hooters Casino, but if I had a voucher for $50 free play I would have gone too! You can always tell what tier the casino is by what booze they serve to players for free. I remember at Treasure Island I asked for the best scotch that was free which was Dewar's, the cheap stuff. At the Venetian they would serve out Maccallan twelve year old scotch for free. I imagine Hooter's was a lower end giving out the cheap stuff!

Dang, for real? Maccallan 12! I just had that for the first time on my recent trip. It was delicious. I bet the Wynn was dropping some good stuff too. That "new" place The Arie is pretty swanky too!

I've heard good stuff about it as well. I was playing blackjack at the Venetian and they would keep bringing out more Maccallan. I think they figure the drunker you are the stupider you'll bet! The most amazing thing I've ever drank was The Maccallan 25 years old, there's no way to put how amazing it was in words. I wasn't paying thank god since it was 200 bucks a shot, and a bottle runs $3K!

I might try out The Arie if I can make it March to the silvergoldstackers meetup, Wynn is really nice too!

If you want to try out some really good affordable scotch, my favorite is Oban 14, it's about eighty a bottle but is really good! Then again I love Booker's bourbon buy it's hard to find these days.

I almost had a bottle of Booker's in my hand at the Jim Beam Distillery. I went with a distillers special though. $80 is right around my max. I don't usually spend more than that. I went to a Whiskey Room in Burlington that had some pours that were in the $500 range. I'll be writing a post about it at some point in the future.

$80 is about my max too. I don't like spending more than that that unless it's a special occasion. I did buy a bottle of Johnnie Walker blue once for a party, it was pretty damn good!

I've never had any of the Walkers as far as I know. I really need to try them sometime. I've never had anything super peaty either. I really need to expand my Scotch pallet.

I'm not a peat lover, I don't mind a little peat but a lot just isn't for me. I prefer a more smoky flavor.

Because it's native American heritage month we have a big huge pow wow on my birthday. And luckily enough it just happened to be on Friday today! So it's definitely going to be a big party at the local college.

Last year I got to have dinner with the chief of the Chinook Nation. And other amazing people.

Funny how super not randomly I get a powwow for my birthday and a free Indian taco along with the entire community getting free Indian tacos as well...
