A Silver San Francisco Treat!

avatar

There's nothing like an old silver dollar. It gives you an instant connection to the past, in the case of today's feature back to the Roaring 20's. World War I had come to an end, women's suffrage was passed, prohibition was in place, speakeasies appeared and Al Capone and the mafia were making a fortune off of boot legging liquor. It was a cultural revolution around the world and surely would have been an exciting time to be alive. However nothing lasts forever and the Roaring 20's came to an end with the start of the great depression.

The Peace dollar entered production in 1921 so it wouldn't be hard to conceive people carrying around these coins in their purses or pockets in the 1920's. They would have spent in speakeasies in big cities around the USA and they probably even saw some action in the red light districts! By holding one in your hand you have a hundred years of history right in front in you.

This particular beauty is exactly 100 years old and is still a stunning coin today.

Some information about the coin:

Denomination: 1 US Dollar

Composition: 90% silver/ 10% copper

Mint: San Francisco

Population: 1,576,000

Weight: 26.73 grams

Diameter: 38.1 mm

Thickness: 2.4 mm

Edge: Reeded

Design: Anthony de Francisci

Obverse: Liberty

Reverse: Perched Bald Eagle

This particular coin is graded at MS61, so not the best example out there but still a mint state item. The nice thing about graded coins is you know exactly what you have and it adds significant value to your investment. Companies like PCGS and NGC are always a fairly safe bet for grades.

I hope you enjoyed my quick post. If you have any questions or comments feel free to add them below. Have a great weekend everyone!

And my disclaimer: Gold and silver stacking can be a fun hobby but isn't for everyone. You can lose money. I'm not a financial advisor and this isn't financial advice, please always do your own research before spending your hard earned money.

Very true, I knew a guy once who believed in colloidal silver and took it daily. His skin was completely gray from years of daily silver intake!

They say that if you make colloidal Silver to make sure you use the purest .9999 fine Silver only…….
Anything less in purity, introduces potentially toxic metals into the colloidal silver !😲
