๐ŸŽ„ Silver Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas- Day 6๐ŸŽ„

Welcome to the new work week everyone! Monday has never been one of my favorite days, but they keep coming every week anyway. Today I'm going to continue on with my Silver Gold Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas Challenge to share twelve items you might like to receive from your secret Santa (or under the tree as well I suppose!) I have always been a big fan of the old United States Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars, and I have collected them since I was pretty young. My father also loved them so that's where I caught the collecting bug.

Recently the United States Mint has started to produce a really cool take on these classic designs. They are now producing reverse proof versions of these coins for collectors. For those unfamiliar with the term proof coin, the background in a proof is like a mirror and not dull like a typical coin. A reverse proof makes the image mirror like and the background a satin like finish. They are incredibly beautiful coins and that is why they are on my wish list.

These are a lot more expensive than my other items so far, but sometimes you have to wish big! The current year's version is on sale from the US Mint for $215. Not too bad, but getting a hold of the 2023's will run at least $100 more. Just have a look at these from 2023:

About the coins

From USMint.gov

Aren't those beautiful coins? They are produced with such an eye for detail and really are works of art. It really is nice to see the US Mint paying tribute to the coins of the past. I know that I frequently complain that I think our coinage should still have Liberty on it rather than old dead political figures. The irony is that the very people they place on the coins and fiat wouldn't want to be there themselves. They would want Liberty as a symbol of our nation on our currency. I'll get off the soap box now...

Morgan and Peace Dollars

The Morgan silver dollar was designed by George T. Morgan and entered into circulation in 1878. I love the amazing details in the coin, which is why I love to collect them. This would have been the type of dollar used in the wild west and many legendary figures like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday would have been carrying them around. That's what I love about the coins that show a lot of wear, you can just imagine who has carried it around in their hands throughout the years. I still carry around a Morgan dollar my father gave me, although it's inside a protective plastic capsule! Here's an example of a very nice Morgan from Wikipedia.

Wikipedia

The Peace silver dollar was designed by Anthony de Francisci who reported used his wife as the model in the creation of the coin. This is my opinion was one of the most beautiful coins that the country has ever produced. It was only produced from 1921 until 1935, so a very short run but and iconic one. It's a shame that our coins don't carry on the artistry of a century ago! Here's a nice example of a high relief variety, although it has been cleaned.

Both were amazing coins, and are a lot of fun to collect. These new reverse proof varieties just raise the bar to a whole new level of awesome!

That will wrap us my post for day six of my Christmas wish list. I would love to have both of those coins either from this year or from 2023, they are both gorgeous! If you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them below. As always thank you so much for all of your support, it really is greatly appreciated. Have a great week everyone!

I think I like the design on the 1921 one better than the one from the previous century. The good thing about this monday is that tomorrow is basically Friday for a lot of people this week. I still have to work a half day on Wednesday, but it really shouldn't be too stressful I don't think!

It is Thanksgiving this week, so a very short work week which is always a great thing! The Peace dollar was the prettiest by far, but I love all the fine details in the Morgan dollar. Much prettier than our garbage coins of today...

Some were done really nicely, I just wish they would do more beautiful coins than the same year after year.

I had no intention of buying any of the anniversary releases. BUTโ€ฆ. Then they did a reverse proof. Wellโ€ฆ needless to say I have both graded.

Gorgeous. I appreciate Morgans and peace dollars, and stack them when I can. Those reverse proof are freaking awesome.

What a difference, ha ha, I love Mondays, it's like it's a restart of the week and it pushes me to keep going, but then I get to thinking and I have no choice, so I look on the bright side.

And they are definitely very beautiful those coins, the detail you have is very neat, I think that's what else gives it a great enhancement.

The other coin that I really liked is the 1879 coin, it is 145 years since its first issue, I think it has a lot of history.

I have quite a few Morgan dollars, they're my favorites to collect because they were used in the wild west era. Who knows, Wyatt Earp may have carried around that very coin you collect! That's what I love about old coins, they have survived so much history and will be around long after we're gone!

I have the Uncirculated, the Proofs and the Reverse Proofs... They're all very nice, but I'm starting to like the regular Uncirculated ones the best... I mostly like U.S. Coins with the San Francisco Mint Marks...

The "S" mint mark rocks, it's my favorite next to "CC", but of course they are much more expensive!

The Morgan Silver dollar has always been one of my favorites, in fact a 1921 Morgan was my very first silver dollar!
Beautiful reverse proof, a bit pricey but stunning!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜€
