๐ŸŽ„ Silver Stackers Twelve Days of Christmas- Day 3๐ŸŽ„

Today I want to continue on with my Twelve Days of Christmas Wish List. It's a challenge started by @silverd510 to share what kind of silver or gold gifts you would like to receive for Christmas from your secret Santa, or under your Christmas tree for that matter. There are a plethora of really nice and expensive items I would love to receive. For example, recovered gold bars and gold chains from sunken ships from the lost Spanish fleets. However, today I'm going with something that isn't a budget breaker.

I lived in the Caribbean for several years back in the 1990's and I absolutely loved it. Beautiful weather year round, except for the occasional hurricane which are extremely rare . It gave me ample opportunities to enjoy the Caribbean sea by scuba diving and fishing, those were fun years! My time there also gave me the chance to visit many old historical sites and learn more about the local history, including the pirates!

One of the ways pirates would make money on the side apart from robbing was to smuggle alcohol into ports with very high taxes. It was a profitable side hustle at the time. The name given to the brazen smugglers was the rum runners. To commemorate the rum runners the Scottsdale Mint produced this coin for Antigua & Barbuda, a nation composed of the two islands located southeast of Puerto Rico. This coin is a beauty!

From Scottsdale Mint

About the coin:

This is a one Troy ounce pure silver coin with some fantastic detailing. I love the old ship in the background, and I know @kerrislravenhill will too. I think she already has one of these if I recall correctly! I have collected coins from the Caribbean ever since I lived there, and it's always fun to find something that I don't yet have in the collection. So this fits perfectly for the third day of my wish list!

Antigua and Barbuda

I would be remiss if I didn't at least share a little about the country that had this coin produced. I have been to Antigua but never made it out to Barbuda. It's a beautiful island and worth the trip if you ever get the chance. It's located in the eastern Caribbean not too far southeast of Puerto Rico. It was a British protectorate until 1981 when they became independent. There main source of revenue is tourism, and to understand why all you need to do is take a look at a couple pictures below. It's gorgeous!

misstourist.com

The ocean here off of southern California isn't nearly as warm or pretty as it is there in Antigua! Pictures like that make me wonder why I'm living in California...

And just in case you were wondering, The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank serves as an association of islands in the eastern Caribbean that band together to have one currency that can be stabilized through the partnership. Their currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar and is used throughout the eastern Caribbean. The bank itself if headquartered in St. Kitts (another beautiful location.)

That will wrap up my post for day three of my Silver Stacker Christmas wish list. It really is a nice coin and I certainly would be thrilled to add it my collection. If you are interested in some more information about Antigua and Barbuda or some more about the history of the rum runners I have added the Wikipedia links for your reading enjoyment under my references. The Caribbean has a very colorful history! Please feel free to ask any questions or leave any comments you may have below. Thank you for taking the time to look over my post and I really appreciate everyone's support and friendship. It really means a great deal to me! Have a great week everyone!

Taxes and political bullies never seem to go away. The greedy politicians want higher taxes to increase their pay at the expense of the poor, sadly the world has worked that way for all of recorded human history and I'm sure long before that as well. That's why there have been rum runners, bootleggers, and moonshiners for as long as our nation has exited!

That looks like a really cool coin. I'm a big fan of rum as I have been drinking it longer than I have been drinking whiskey. This would definitely be a really neat piece to have as part of your collection. I can see why you shared it on your wish list!

Thanks, it's a beauty! I love some good rum too, especially small batch rum, that stuff can be really good. It's been awhile since I've found a good bottle of small batch rum, it's much easier to find good whiskey.

Yeah, that is a good point. I haven't really tried any higher end rum. I can only imagine how good it is if I like the mid shelf stuff!

I do have the first 2019 Rum Runner but not the 2022 or 2023 version. My coin retailers never order these across the border. The 2019 Antigua & Barbuda I have was ordered direct from Scottsdale in a combined order with a friend to make the expensive shipping worthwhile. In fact I have the 2023 list as my Day 3, 12 Days of Christmas after my next post which is coming soon.
Lined up a nice banknote to match too.
Keep on Stacking @thebighigg

I guess that cross border thing gets expensive. You would think the US/Canada free trade would apply, but I guess not to precious metals. They are such nice coins though, I love the detailing and surfaces!

It seems like you're well travelled, and to be honest who wouldn't want to visit beautiful places with nice weathers and beaches. I haven't really held any or own and silver coins, but this is one beautiful stuff.

The British really did a lot of colonizing back in the day.

Back in my younger years I did travel a lot, mostly because I realized that I might not be able to when I was older and had a family. The Caribbean is a beautiful place to live or to visit!

This coin really is a beauty, they did some amazing detailing on it. It's probably been a very long time since silver coins were used in Nigeria I bet.
