PIZZA Guild Brawl Report #1
I've been playing Splinterlands since September and have been a part of the PIZZA Guild since the end of November. It's really is astonishing that I haven't done a brawl report yet. But there has to be a first for everything I suppose. Please bear with me as I work out my formatting and style for these reports.
I'm currently in PIZZA 1: The Stuffed Crust and have been taking care of business in Fray 1. For those of you who don't know the Frays right off the top of your head, Fray 1 is Novice League/ All Cards. This is the most basic of basic Frays there is. In this fray, everyone is capped to level 1 cards. It evens the playing field for new and advanced players, so if you're used to strategies using leveled cards with additional stats and abilities, you really have to rethink some of your choices. It's also the fray the tends to get the battles. But enough rambling from me, let's get to some brawls.
Battle #1 - Win
Ruleset - Noxious Fumes & Rise of the Commons
It's a classic Magic boost (Alric) vs Melee boost (Tarsa), and most circumstances, I would think I was facing a world of pain. However, my opponent only used 1 Magic monster, failing to fully utilize Alric's strengths. Instead of being offensive, they tried to simply outlast me in noxious fumes with the Sea Monster's self heal. Unforunately for them, my Scavo Chemist has cleanse which cancels out the poison for whoever is in my tank position. Then the offense power of my gladiator, Chimney Wallstop, boosted by Tarsa, crushed his way in the 2nd spot with reach. It was over in 3 rounds.
Battle #2 - Win
Opponent Fled - Free win!
Battle #3 - Win
Ruleset - Stampede & Lost Legendaries
This battle saw Tarsa go up against General Sloan with a boost to Ranged attacks. This time I used a 2 front approach with Living Lava with it's shield ability and a return of Chimney Wallstop in my reach position. Then I had a slew of sneak attackers to chip away at the back line. This worked out perfectly as my opponent threw the ultimate glass cannon Pelacor Arbalest in the very last position. He can bring on a world of hurt with Sloan boosting his attack and his double strike ability, IF he can last long enough. All I had to do was take out Shieldbearer with taunt, which went quickly with Tarsa's Melee boost. The fight was over in 4 rounds.
Battle #4 - Win
Ruleset - Silenced Summoner & Even Stevens
I switch things up and focused on Magic using Obsidian while my opponent decided on Kelya Frendul. Due to the Silenced Summoner ruleset, the summoner's abilities play no role in aiding the fight. I chose to go the magic route due to it's ability to bypass shields and because I wanted to use my absolute favorite Gladiator, Quora Towershead. Somehow, she only gets a Epic rarity, but in my opinion, she outclasses many legendaries. At level 1, she boasts 2 magic and 2 melee attack, 3 speed, and 11 health. Then you add in her abilities, bloodlust and heal, and she is 1 tough gladiator. My opponents Deeplurker takes out my healer, Goblin Psychic and they were able to take out my Grund with double strike, this only opens up Quora's Melee attack as she moves up to the top spot while she continues to heal herself. It's all over in 5 rounds.
Battle #5 - Win
Ruleset - Armored Up & Noxious Fumes
My go to for Noxious Fumes, is the Forgotten One due to it's Immunity ability at level 1. As you can see, we both had the very same thought. This Tarsa vs Tarsa matchup comes down to our supporting cast around Forgotten One, especially with the low mana. I decided on Scorch Fiend in the tank position, taking up 0 mana and Orella Abadon in the back spot with sneak and bloodlust. My opponently went with Creeping Ooze in the tank spot to slow my down, and Furious Chicken in the 2nd spot to elongate the fight in hopes that the Noxious Fumes gives them the advantage. Unfortunately, having no one in a position to attack, I was able to get some valuable extra hits in on their Forgotten One with my Gladiator. The fight was over in only 3 rounds.
Battle #6 - Win
Ruleset - Super Sneak
This matchup saw my Mylor take on Thaddius Brood. My opponent went with the solid Brood strategy of lowering health, magnified as low mana monsters already have low health to begin with. The mana being so low, meant I needed to maximize the hits my monsters could take so Mylor's thorns could do their worst. Hill Giant is a great start, because for 3 mana, he gets you 6 health Queen Mycella then extends that longevity with Protect, adding +2 shield to your entire lineup. Finally, as this is a Super Sneak battle, I put my Mycellic Infantry with it's Shield ability in the last spot to absorb all the blows, while returning thorn damage each and every time. The fight lasted 4 rounds, and all my monsters survived the ordeal
Battle #7 - Win
Ruleset - Fog of War & Lost Legendaries
I was really mad at myself for this one as I almost let a couple of slip-ups in strategy end my steak. My first mistake was not paying attention to whether I was Home or Away. Why does this matter? Well for one, based on the guilds Barracks level, any tie goes to me IF I'm the home team. However, more importantly, based on our Barracks level, we can ban a single card from being used IF we are the home team. For this brawl, we decided Obsidian would have to go. If you look closely though, I am NOT the home team. So from the very beginning, I made the assumption that I had no chance of going up against Obsidian. I have a whole different strategy that works for me when I think I may face a magic team; what I have here isn't quite it. So I submit my team and my opponent is not only bringing Obsidian, but she's got 2 tank healers and a ranged attack with blast. I thought I could be in some deep trouble. Fortunately, I had a Mushroom Seer to negate their Obsidian's magic boost. Then my Mycellic Slipspawn's Taunt drew just enough attention away from my Grund/Quora frontline duo. The fight only lasted 3 rounds, but my lapse is sound strategy really could have given me a loss there.
Bonus First person to tell me my other mistake gets 5 $PIZZA
Battle #8 - Win
Ruleset - Unproteted & Holy Protection
While I made some mistakes the last fight, this time it's my opponent making a slight mistake. The ruleset was Unprotected and yet my they used Drake of Arnak as their summoner. This means the +1 shield normally given for using Drake, is wasted. Perhaps it was a calculated risk in order to use Djinn Chwala along with Windeku for their thorn ability. Ultimately, it didn't matter as I went Legendary heavy in this one. My opponent was no match and it was all over in 5 rounds.
That rounds out my 8-0 clean sweep victory in this brawl. An astounding four other Pizza 1 members swept their brawls. Congrats to @kqaosphreak, @failingforward, @funnel, and @torrey.blog. Although we fell just short of first place, we are very close to being able to win these brawls consistently as a guild.

First of all, welcome to the Brawl Reports! Also, go Stuffed Crust !PIZZA fam! Granted I might be biased due to being in the same guild again... since we were both in Pizza 3 first! 😁
Thanks for the warm welcome. No bias at all, the !PIZZA Guild is the Pizza guild, whether we're P1 or P3. Always family. Ok, so maybe a little biased lol

Dear @theacks, we need your help!
The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago and only needs a few more HP to get funded again.
May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work this year?
You can do it on Peakd, ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.
