My thumb my medal of honour
My medal, my reminder of that fateful day.
10 years old and a charming rascal in the making.
A balsa wood plane in the making, a craft knife, a pot of red paint.
What could possibly go wrong?
Surely I would get a medal for my plane. Would I paint in the RAF red white and blue colours. Make it a spitfire that won the Battle of Britain and kept us free.
She was alive in World War II when that happened.
And here in less than ten minutes she would be here, in our classroom coming to celebrate our school's 150th anniversary!
How fluffing cool is that!

Look at it though, my thumb, my medal of honour from meeting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Haha bless. I did exactly the same thing at the same age. Sliced half my thumb off making a balsa Stuka bomber and I still have the scar nearly 50 years later! Plane crashed on the first flight too hahaha
