I am my father in more ways than one

Hello Hello Silver Bloggers and indeed all Hivians

Surprise Suprise by the time I publish this it will be 4 consecutive days that I have published on the Hive blockchain.

I have fluffing well surprised myself.

However, I actually have an ulterior motive. Today well this morning I was looking through some of my photos from a walk I took at the weekend. I downloaded them from the camera memory card onto my Tablet. That is where I was looking and deleting etc ready to put onto a post today for Wednesday Walk.

Then, a squirrel struck!

I mean I got totally sidetracked, well there is no surprise there!

I was reading blogposts that were written to read and curate many posts that have been written for the Memoir Monday initiative that was created by @ericvancewalton
You can catch his original post here or the prompt for this Memoir Monday #21 (7/29-8/4)

This week’s Memoir Monday prompt:

What have been some of your life's greatest surprises?

Surprises! Now you see why I was reernecing surprises like a madman.

First things first ...

I am not going to mention material surprise like monetary wins or gifts got etc etc.

No no that would be too simple, nor am I going to mention the greatest but worst surprise is finding out that time goes faster the older you get!

No, rather I am going to mention how surprised I am that I have picked up so many of father's traits, faults and good points!

They say make sure you like your future mother-in-law! Well the same applies to the father-in-law if you are a female, as Mrs T says she liked my Dad from the day she met him.

The look ~ The nose ~ The jowels

Okay so I am skipping a few generations this is not my father Edward but rather my great great grandfather I think or is there another great in there.... Sir Edward Charles Blount from whom I got my wanderlust for starters, scribblings and photography for another. He did write his memoirs and you can check his wiki if so inclined.

I have the Blount nose the straight aristocratic one @lhes... That is one thing Mrs T said when she met my great aunts, we have the Blount nose!

Ha, enough of that.

I was surprised the older I get how many ailments I have inherited from my father.

I have ankylosing spondylitus which is a 24/7 bastard of an arthritis which I have had since I was 12. It is the reason we don't have children. I refuse to possibly give this to my son. I got diagnosed when I was 18 thanks to a private doctor realising father had it to.

With all my father's good points I inherited, probably the biggest being a nurdling champion, which is the art of spinning a glorious lie into something belieavable or vice versa or as I put it, being a fantastic practioner in the art of gibberish! There were parts I hoped I would not inherit.

You know the term a mean drunk. Boy oh boy when he had too much whisky in him, then he was a different and a very unpleasant man.

Thankfully I rarely drink now, so the opportunity to be that mean man I snuff out now.

He was a charmer and it is no surprise I picked that upfrom him.

One big surprise and now of my greatest pleasures is something that he loved.

Can you guess what from this picture?

The charm and the birds

Isn't it brilliant that we get surprised by some of life's most little pleasures!

image.png

To my surprise I have developed his love of birds.

I suppose in hindsight it is only natural that a charmer would also appreciate the feathered variety of birds.

Growing up, my father spent all his holidays on an estate where a family friend was a gamekeeper, so he got know wildlife. My grandfather passed away when Dad was 10 so I guess this was his father figure.

So we always were shown nature, but it is only in the last few years that I have appreciated birds so much.

It is a great thing and even Mrs gets in on the act (well she comes to the park to feed them a few times).

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the new week ahead!

Age and genes certainly make a huge difference. Good thing we inherit the good, too, and not just the bad ones.

Yeah I think life would suck if all we inherited was the bad ones! Thanks for popping in Doreen :)

Aha!! Seems like a nice prompt. I did think of things I inherited from my Dad but I'm not sure if I got around it.

I did grow up without Dad but seems like I still got his genes more than I think and uh, like. Hahaha

Yeah the prompts are great, the whole initiative is a really good idea. Hehe it is funny when someone says you are more alike than your father than you think! So do you have his good genes Jelly?

Hahaha I hated him so maybe it's a good thing as people see it but I don't think so. Lol

I am also my father's daughter. I look so much like my dad than my mom. I inherited his Chocolate skin, height, and dentition.

That's why you are the true son of your father, a true Blount! Genes are very accurate the way they transmit their codes from one generation to another, but I wish you didn't have to inherit the pain though. I wish you less through the years.

TG please can I get a discord invite for silverbloggers? I wish to mingle.. 😁

In my country there is a saying that goes: what is bad is what is inherited.

And it is said when someone inherits diseases, how bad that is true.

You must feel pain in your beautiful body 🤣, sore but beautiful, it is a very laudable act not to want to inherit diseases to your children and avoid having them. My greatest respect to Mrs. T for loving you with everything.and your arthritis. @tengolotodo 🥰

According to my ophthalmologist I inherited glaucoma from my father.

It is controlled, I have 13 years with treatment and well, sometimes it makes me sad not to see well, but I remember that there are people who do not see anything and I get over it.

@tengolotodo 🥲🥰

Aww poor you @soyunasantacruz , my mother was a type 1 diabetic and had glaucoma, thankfully I got no illnesses from my mother.

Uhi that's good, my dad is healthy and just has glaucoma like me.

We were operated with laser and I think that was the cause of developing that disease, although the doctor says it was not.

That disease that stop the chances of having Edward the VII (am I right) with aristocratic nose!

What a great little post that celebrates the good traits you inherited. It's fascinating how much we can be like one or the other parent (or even grandparent) even if we didn't grow up with them or they died when we were young. Jamie's found a ridiculous amount of things in common with his Dad who he barely sees and who left when he was 4 - a love of birds being amongst them.

However I do fear a love of birds is a product of old age. There's a meme somewhere that is along the lines of 'One minute you're out partying til dawn, next you're saying: 'ooh, is that a spotted warbler'' - I'm sure that's not it precisely, but you get the idea.

I'm sorry about the bastard arthritis. That must be painful. And alcohol would worsen it I imagine.

Mean drunks are the worst. My grandpa on the German side was one. Dad said he was a cracking person when he was sober but when he came home and saw the bottles on theback step he'd go sleep in his car.

Thanks River 😁

Fluff yes! I mean young me would not be walking along a path and going oh look at that pretty wee three tailed penny warbler just warbling upto that big female four headed jay in the bush!

I'm sorry about the bastard arthritis. That must be painful. And alcohol would worsen it I imagine.

It was only years later that it twigged why he drank like that. The pain, he spent years of not being diagnosed.

When you are drunk there is no pain. But it does no good of course.

Yeah genes there really is something in them. Hair being one big thing. It is genes as to what head of hair you got!

I refuse to possibly give this to my son.

So you were sure, there can't be any remedy for this ? I mean, can't there be a way, which can prevent passing it to successors ? Or even if its passed, do some early treatment or practice Yoga to cure it ?

You have many good things, that would also get passed and I think, we should think from positive angles as well.

No cure, maybe years from now there might be a prevention. There was also a chance I would not pass it down, not something I wanted to risk.

I wonder when you were younger and consumed too much alcohol. Will you change into a different man?. Or maybe you didn't inherit this one😬😁

I like this prompt and I too have some older pictures of past generations of the male, Bob. I can certainly tell you I picked up both genes of looks and personality from all of them. I ponder thinking all the good ones but that's up to one's interpretation, haha 😅

Hehe pondering our good ones, yeah it is all about interpretation ....

What you mean we don't have any good points... nah can't believe that 🤣

How great you are... you have made me think of something very recurrent in my thoughts.
Well, there are some things we can change and others maybe we can, or not... it depends. Life is so mysterious sometimes.

That ... Whenever a lady says that to me, makes me go 😁

Yes, life works in mysterious ways.
I tell people exactly that, there are some things we cannot change so don't worry about them!
