From roses to coots to wizards taking a walk in Beveridge Park

Hello Hello Hivians

Today we are going for a walk in the park!

From roses to coots to wizards taking a walk in Beveridge Park.png

This past weekend was pretty nice weather here in Scotland. Blue skies with white cotton clouds interspersed with the odd grey cloud.

A perfect time to go for a walk in the park. So let's see what we found!

Our starting point is the aptly named Rose Garden.

image.png

The rose garden is on the way to the boat pond, and yes full of bonnie wee roses. They cut back the roses from a couple of years ago so now they seem mostly to be low level roses and not much taller and bushier like they used to be.

image.png

However, I spied something through the pillars...

image.png

Did you see it?

Here is a bigger look all close up!

image.png

Of course it was a bit blurry as it was using the zoom so a distance away.

Here is the result ...

image.png

Hehe yes an ice cream or a Mr Whippy that is wht we call soft ice cream like that.

Of course the chocoholic in me always has to have a 99 or flake!

image.png

Usually it is a bloke with his ice cream truck, today was a girl.

Do you have ice cream vans like that in your country?

image.png

But guess who noticed we were there?

Not seagulls thankfully, but it was Dafty's grandson Pieter the Pomerian duck!

It has been a while since I had seen or fed him, so he got a handful of duck food.

image.png

Before we left it was time to dispose of the paper tissues we held the ice cream cones it, and here was a cute rubbish bin!

Do you have cute bins like that?

Aha look else is coming...

image.png

yes Sandra Swan wanted to say hello too....

Can you see her ruffled feathers?

She is not like that because of me...

Oh no it is because of Charles and Camilla!

image.png

Not the Royals ... but ... it is Charles and Camilla coot guarding their nest. I tell you what ... They are bloody noisy and scoot over the water to have a go at Sandra Swan, their lack of size does not stop them guarding the nest!

But we are going up into those woods eventually ...

image.png

Look up, don't you just love looking up and seeing what is up there?

image.png

First though, through the gardens we need to go ... look at this lavender!

image.png

Forget fields of fire, this was more fields of lavender. I think the parks department at the local council must have got some good deals on hundreds of lavender plants!

No time to stop and smell the flowers or look at the animal fountain!

The fountain and beaver or is it an otter are dedicated to Mrs Beveridge.

She was the wife of the mayor of Kirkcaldy and kept pestering him to create some green land for the people of Kirkcaldy, and so Beveridge Park was created.

Thank you Mrs Beveridge!

Onwards we go though ....

image.png

We have loads of alleys in the UK, this is not Diagon Alleyfrom Harry Potter fame, no rather I call it Tree Alley!

To the woods we go, we are on a mission!

Yes we're off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of ....

First though, we need to ask him if we go left or right?

Always decisions, decisions everywhere ...

We are going to hang a left and then take a right ...

Are you keeping up?

Now you know we are going up ...

image.png

Even up and down in points as you can see from this panoramic shot!

image.png

Alrighty nearly there ....

image.png

Can you see something on the left hand side of the path?

Almost in the center of the picture...

Let's go closer ...

image.png
There he is, with his wise owl on his shoulder!

image.png

The wonderful Wizard of Beveridge.

His name is Sir Michael Scott and he is 800 years old! You can tell by the book in his hand, he is an academic and even taught in Italy and the Vatican!

But we shall leave him be today.

But what the fluff is this!!!

image.png

The recent winds had caused havoc and brought down trees and branches ...

Trapping us ....

Help! Did we make it out alive!

This is also a post to participate in the #wednesdaywalk initiative from the wonderful @tattoodjay

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!

Great walk Ed. Surprising you have so much history there to enjoy! The Harry Potter tree alley looks cool. Good to see you getting a MrWhippy there, we have vans here, but no Mr Whippy or flakes.. but it costs usually 1,50 for a scoop with a cone. I did have an interesting variation of a Mr Whippy in Poland once though.

Thanks Steve and for the curation too. Yeah history everywhere, we just need to realise it. Ohso you cans too, that is cool and that 1.50 seems a really good deal!

I have the strong believe that you did make it out alive. Plus Sandra is absolutely gorgeous, so graceful with that slender neck and ruffled feathers. They don't even try. The swans I mean. I like the wizard. Does he unfreeze in the middle of the night and go about saving the world?

hehe yeah I made it, am sure some wish I hadn't but yeah made it.
Swans really are graceful and I love their necks.
Sir Michael ah he does do some magical things, he is old and wise and gets tired so often has afternoon naps as you can tell....

Looks like it was a really amazing day! We have been having similar weather lately and it has been absolutely amazing. It sounds like rain is moving in for the weekend though.

Hehe the problem was that the end of the walk was nowhere near where the icecream van would be.
So this way you have the treat then walk it off🤣

Nice walk. Yes, we have an ice cream truck that comes through our neighborhood a few times a week. The little kids around here love it. Think I might stop him next time I hear his music playing and get me a cone as well.

Aha now that sounds like you should have a treat. I remember as a kid we used to hear it. Here we don't so when the sun shines I grab one if I see a van! Yeah a lovely place on my doorstep.

Isn't it wild sometimes what we have right outside our doorstep? I need to start getting out more and exploring some of our local parks.

What a beautiful walk Ed, especially the Tree Alley!
Ice Cream cone with a Flake please; we still hear the ice cream truck but it seldom comes down our little cul-de-sac!

Funnily enough I never hear an icecream truck anymore, so when I see that one then a guilty pleasure is had!
Tree Alley is gorgeous, even in winter I love it when they are naked Lizzie!

The Rose garden is a fairytale! Your place is very beautiful and going on that walk with you, I could smell the fragrances of the roses and the lavenders, I could see the landscape of greeneries and yes the taste of the ice-cream was super delicious... thank you, and yes...we did come back alive!

A wonderful Wednesday walk it was!

The rose garden is fun. During Covid, Mrs T and I often sat on the benches there eating a sandwich for lunch.
The fragrances are lovely. hehe I loved this comment Edith, it is great when we take people with us!

What a beautiful walk you enjoyed there! I love all the flowers and paths that are shaded by trees.

I think my favorite has to be the ice cream with the churro in it, now I want some churros!
