To edit or not to edit ~ That is the photographer's question!

To edit or not to edit ~ That is the photographer's question!

I have loved photography since I was a wee boy.

Of course for me, that meant a very very very expensive hobby. Yes film cameras, you know the sort 24 photographs on a roll of film.

There was no click, I don't like that, click click click etc as we do now with digital.

So I think my upbringing has hampered me....

Okay so I can take some half decent photographs but it was so engrained into my psyche that what we captured is what we published.

I used to think of editing photographs as cheating!

I mean .. Tengo what the fluff!!!

Yeah Yeah I know.

So now I edit, but I don't edit much.

Here is a look at the sort of editing I do ....

Let's go back in time.

Just a bog standard pic holding a button that was found at Edinburgh Waverley train station...

Actually it was taken over 8 years ago on whatever crappy smartphone I had at the time.

The 26th of July 2016 according to my Google Photos.

Speaking of Google photos this is where I edited the pic....

Did you see a subtle difference, I just gave some more pop, enhanced the colour.

That is my favourite type of edit.

What about this one, I did two edits ....

First up the original picture ...

I am sure some of you will recognise that this is a McDonalds breakfast picture, and again it is the same day from eight years ago.

The edited picture ...

Can you guess the two edits?

Yes you got the first one, I did pop the colour a wee bit.

Now the second one is pretty important as it shows you do take care with your pictures.

It was the crop / rotate feature. I adjusted the picture by 3 degrees, it straightened things up and in doing so cuts off some of the edges.

Of course it is not much on this picture but you can imagine you can straighten up some wonky looking pictures!

Where do you edit?

That is a screenshot of my Google photos editor, it is simple and easy to use.

I mean if you want more advanced features you can use lightroom orgimp ir allsorts of ones.

These wrere on my laptop, of course you can do it on your phone.

Do tell me if you do edit your pictures and what you use....

Thanks for visiting and I hope you enjoyed the editing question.

If there is any response I might do some more detailed posts around editing for numpties like me!!!

All ramblings and photographs are from me, the mad Scotsman TengoLoTodo apart from the screenshot of my google photos editor on my chromebook

Guilty as charged, Tito Ed. I do edit my photos, like the way you do yours. Adjusting tones a bit or cropping and rotating. I just use the photo viewer/editor on my pc.

hehe yes that is the way to do it CJ. It is just giving them a more finished and polished touch. It is not really editing in my mind now, more a case of make them look a wee bit neater like yours CJ 😁

I edit all most every one of my pictures. I just see it as part of the artistic process. :)

I use Adobe Lightroom to edit. It also helps me keep my photos organized when I can remember to add key words. lol
