Ugly Love

I've loved every book by Colleen Hoover and "Ugly Love" isn't an exception. When I first started the book, after three pages, I closed it and went for something else but on Sunday, I determined that I was going to read every page, paying attention to every word and every detail. I felt because it's Colleen Hoover's work, there's no way I'd be disappointed so I read on and yep! I don't regret it.

Plot summary (no spoiler)

"Ugly Love" is a rollercoaster of emotions that explores the complexities of love and loss. The narrative skillfully intertwines past and present and gradually, it unveils the heartbreaking backstory behind the characters' present struggles. Hoover's writing is touching, always is, as it captures the raw intensity of each characters' emotions which opens the reader to the raw feeling of each character. The protagonists, Tate and Miles, are pretty much developed, each carrying their own baggage that adds depth to the story.

The novel's strength actually lies in its ability to evoke empathy, especially as it delves into themes of grief and healing. The chemistry between Tate and Miles is palpable, creating a magnetic pull for readers. However, at some point I felt the plot's pacing was a bit uneven, with certain moments dragging while others rushed by.

Ugly Love is compelling and left a lasting impact on me. I found myself crying in some scenes especially and smiling in others. The imagery was very vivid and raw. I felt every pain, every smile and every romance. At some point I had to read slowly just because I was scared of it ending. I wanted more of the beautiful moments, even though the tragic moments made it even more interesting. In previous reviews, I've always stated that I don't like a plain romance book, I like evil in-between. Of course there has to be conflict somewhere, but the kind that makes my heart hammer and try to escape its initial position is the one I'd choose over and over again.

All in all, It's a novel that stays with you, making it a recommended read for those seeking an emotionally charged contemporary romance.

PS: this book is solely rated 18.
