The Blind Pig Proposal
Abby was thrilled but at the same time scared as she looked at the gold ring in her hands. She was determined to ask John to marry her since he wouldn't pop the question. Her parents frowned at her decision but she was determined to do it. From childhood, Abby was never known to tag along societal norms, she debunked them and took a path she believed to be right for her.
Happily, she put the ring back in its box as she dressed up to go over to John's since they were to meet that evening. "I hope he says yes," she muttered.
A blue gown, silver heels, red lipstick and her hair made into soft waves which gave a romantic and effortless vibe was perfect for the evening. Before leaving the house, Abby made sure to wear her most expensive perfume. She was determined to step out looking ridiculously Peng.
The doorbell rang alarming the already furious John. He sprang to his feet and grumpily walked to the door. Pulling it open, he was stunned to see Abby looking like Cinderella but immediately rubbed his eyes as if to get rid of some kind of voodoo. He left the door open and went back crashing on the couch.
Abby was sweating already as she thought of what could possibly have made him so upset that he didn't even compliment her looks?
Taking a seat beside him, her fragrance hit his nostrils. He couldn't help but curl up in her arms, still frowning. "What could possibly get you this pissed on a beautiful evening like this?"
As if he was waiting for her to ask, he sprang to his feet, stood in front of the TV, hitting the screen repeatedly; "Can you imagine that the government put a ban on coffee because some influential group said it was overly consumed and wasn't good for the health? What's even more annoying is that this lady here could read it out loud without going haywire".
Abby knew how much her boyfriend loved coffee and couldn't go a day without it so to make her proposal work, she had to think of something. She walked up to him while he was still fuming and giving the newscaster a disbelieving look. Abby cupped his face in her palms making sure to gain an eye contact "can I take you somewhere?"
"You look adorable with red lipstick" she giggled and freed his face. "Gimme a minute, I need to put on something better". She nodded and gave the air an uppercut to show her elation.
When he was back, he asked her where they were going. "You'll see" was all she said with a smile. Her smile was the most beautiful thing Johnny had ever seen.
Into a street decorated with tall trees and beautiful flowers, she tried her best to keep up with the speed limit because darkness was slowly taking over. At some point, they had to walk on foot.
It felt like a hike, the atmosphere was beautiful, the orange hue in the evening sky made the walk through the bushes even more enjoyable. Abby had taken off her heels as she trod on barefoot. John laughed to his heart's content as she did many things to keep his thinking stable.
After walking some distance from the car, they came in contact with the sign that showed the way to the Blind Pig.
"Blind Pig?" He read it out loud, almost getting furious. "What's this about?" "You'll see my love". Her response was soothing so he pushed the door open. Being a gentleman, he let her go in first.
The place looked small and old fashioned in John's eyes, but of course **The Blind Pig had lots of rooms for visitors. A lady walked up to them and showed them down a stairs that led to an underground room. "Okay, so it's time to really see the blind pig eh?" Abby let out a soft chuckle. She was used to the place, it was one of her hideouts when she used to do drugs.
"A speakeasy? She smiled as they took a seat. "What would you like to eat?" The lady who walked with them asked, wearing a smile on her face. After she had taken down John's order, Abby whispered something to her ears, she nodded and walked away.
"Do you like it here?" "It's a very good hideout," he simpered. While they waited for the food to arrive, she took the ring out of her bag and stared at it. Her heart racing like never before, he noticed the look on her face and asked what the matter was. Aghast that he was paying attention to her, the box dropped off her hands and rolled to his side. Giving her a stern look, he picked it up and opened it.
Abby's heart raced even faster as she crossed her fingers. His face was emotionless that she couldn't tell what was going on in his head, he was very good at confusing her but Abby remembering who she was took up her crown of boldness and rocked it with smiles and trembling.
"Will you ma…" before she could finish her statement, a barista arrived with the food and two mugs of hot steaming coffee. Seeing the coffee, John's face lit up and He let out a long yes. "Yes?" She asked to be sure he was responding to her uncompleted statement.
"Yes Abby, I'll marry you". Abby couldn't contain her joy. She jumped off her seat, almost knocking down the barista in a bid to get a hug from John who had opened wide his arms.
They shared a passionate kiss as the barista kept the food tray on the table. "Congratulations," she said and walked out of the room.
"Oh this is so tasty" he moaned as he took a sip. "I hope they'll have some bags to give out in exchange for cash?" he grinned. "Here's to happiness my love". "Cheers!" He responded.
A story full of love, love between the couple and their love for the café. It is good that the woman has broken the paradigms and has dared to ask for what she wanted so much.
