An assortment of farm treasures
After enduring three days of relentless rainfall, the countryside finally bathed in brilliant sunshine. The weather was exceptionally favorable, and very inviting to embark on a hike and partake in the long awaited farm harvest. My mother and I made the decision to journey to her farm, miles away from home, to gather the crops that had thrived.
I have always loved the harvest season over planting, and my arrival at my parent's during this season of harvest, couldn't have been more impeccably timed.
The atmosphere was filled with the enchanting scent of petrichor, a fragrance that heightened the allure of our hike. Walking alongside my mom served both as a physical exercise and a wonderful opportunity to inspect the progress of her crops as it's been a while since I saw them.
The sky, painted in a serene cotton blue, seized my attention, compelling me to capture the picturesque scene through the lens of my camera. Puddles from the recent rains dotted our path, tempting me to momentarily regress into childhood, yearning to splash in them without fear of judgment.
Upon reaching the farm, we were welcomed by a disheartening sight. Weeds had overrun most of the plants, insidious pests had ravaged others, and sneak thiefs with greedy hands had not spared some of the crops that were ripe for harvest.
The farm, since it's situated far from our home will remain vulnerable to the covetous.
Despite these setbacks, we were relieved that some crops remained. I was so thrilled when my mom unearthed the Irish potatoes she had cultivated earlier this year.
According to her, they grow larger than is seen in the photo. I could already taste the crisp, golden chips dipped in tangy ketchup that they would become when I tried them😊.
All in all, our harvest included an assortment of treasures; water yams, tender pumpkin leaves, cocoyams, and some cassavas.
We had to leave the peppers untouched, as they were not yet ripe, but their vibrant colors hinted at the fiery delight they would soon bring.
Being enveloped by the countryside, with its lush fields, vibrant greenery, flowing water, and scarce passersby, brought a sense of peace. I felt good inhaling the pure cool air compared to what we have in the city. It was soothing and an invigorating experience to be honest.
Taking a walk in nature, whether for a leisurely stroll or an extended hike, presents an intense sense of serenity and rejuvenation.
Thank you for reading this far ✨.
I remember my childhood. Like you said, puddles on the road bring out my childish side. I want to get into that puddle. Your harvest really tempts me. lots of harvest.
