Unexpected Art-filled Sunday with My Cousin... :)

I was on my way out of the supermarket after grocery shopping with my father when I got a video call from my younger cousin. I declined the call and sent him a message that I was on my way home and asked him what was up.

He then replied with a question, "Ate (a-teh = what we call an older sister in my country), are you busy today?" and sent me this photo.

Their teacher asked them to paint a self-portrait in Renaissance painting style. He's good at sketching, but he's not confident when it comes to painting. I'm not good at it, but I enjoy painting and it so happened that I didn't open any classes today. He only has a solid watercolor that's not really suitable to use for a canvas, so I told him to come over.

Their house is more than an hour away, but it's also a great time for us to bond as it's been a while. My aunt then sent me a message to confirm our conversation... and so they came in the afternoon. :)

Since I usually just mix paint when I'm making artwork, I helped him mix paint that would be suitable for his painting. I guided him and explained some stuff to him.

I made him do the base paint, then I did the final touches so the paint wouldn't look so messy. He was also scared to paint the smaller details, so I helped him with them. hahaha

His hand was shaking... so cute! But he's the patient kind of artist. He loves sketching, especially cross-hatching, but I'm the opposite of that. I just like playing with colors, so I prefer painting to sketching. I need to practice and lengthen my patience when it comes to drawing, though. :)

My mom took this photo of us. We looked so serious. lol Detailing for a project is scary... but I wouldn't mind if I do it for fun. xD

We finished the painting... and I just asked him to paint the sides of the canvas and it's ready to be submitted.

It was raining heavily, so we had dinner first and watched some music videos on YouTube. They had to go home tonight because he still has an exam tomorrow. When the rain calmed down, they headed home. It was short, but I'm happy to spend time with my cousin today. I'm glad I could help him with his project.

I can't wait to see him again together with another close cousin, hopefully, this coming Christmas. They're both my babies and I love spending time with them. :)

It was indeed an unexpected art-filled Sunday, but it was awesome! Thanks for reading and have a great one! (^^,)/

So we can call it a Funday instead of a regular Sunday :) I really liked the seriousness and the outcome. :D
