ASEAN Hive Community Challenge #121: Noodle Nirvana

When I saw the topic for the ASEAN Hive Community Challenge this week which is Noodle Nirvana, I got pretty excited. For one, I love noodle and pasta dishes... and the fact that my mom @arashi0416 started blogging again.

I told her to join not only because cooking is her forte, but also I'm excited to eat whatever pasta or noodle dish she makes or experiment on. hahah Yes, I had an ulterior motive and I don't regret it!

Anyway, since I don't normally cook, the fact that the challenge doesn't limit us to the actual made me happy. There's something that I've been wanting to try these days especially after watching an anime called Mononoke.

The art style used in the anime was similar to that of an ukiyo-e (woodblock painting) which was an old art form in Japan... It's mostly colorful and flowy... and since noodles are flowy and can be colorful, I decided to paint Philippine style fried noodle dish in my attempt to make an ukiyo-e type of painting.

Welp, it isnt that bad for a first attempt, is it? :)
Allow me to show you some progress shots...

I decided to use watercolor pad instead of my canvas pad because I wanted to use both solid watercolors and acrylic... and my cheap solid water color doesn't work on canvas. haha

Using the solid watercolor... I made a random combination of colors as a background and then outlined it with a yellow ocre acrylic paint.

I outlined the bowl or container for my pancit... :)

I made a simple design on the outer part of the container.

Next, I worked on the noodles and some of the toppings... I also decided to add a Philippine lime (kalamansi) drop on top to make it more Filipino. haha

After completing the base painting, I added more details. I roughly did an outline using black paint and added more highlights using white paint. I also added more details and color to the noodle. It was fun!

Lastly, I took out the masking tape I placed around the artwork.

Below are some closer shots of the artwork I made. It's colorful and flowy although it looks a bit chaotic, but aren't noodles that way normally? haha Sorry, I'm just being defensive. XD Anyway, I'm quite happy with how it looks.

I don't eat shrimp because I'm allergic, but it's a common ingredient in Filipino pancit. We just skip it every time we have some at home because of my allergies... at least, I could paint some without having rashes and difficulty breathing. lol

Ohh... I also tried making a gif version of the process. I'm glad it's working now. It looks so fun to watch.

I'll try to be more versatile with the subjects of my artworks. I'm grateful to have the chance to actually paint one that I don't normally paint. I might get into painting food items because of this challenge. haha

Anyway, I'll end my post here... I still have to clean up my messy art station and wash my hand.

Kthnxbye~!!! See you around! (^^,)/
