AO ASHI Special Episode: TAKYAN!

I just noticed that there was a Wild Plot Wednesdays ... and the concept this week is so interesting. I hope you enjoy my story.

It was the off-season for their soccer team, and friends and teammates Ashito, Ootomo, and Tachibana decided to take a leisurely stroll through the local park to unwind and relax. The morning sun bathed the area in a warm glow. As they walked, their conversation flowed effortlessly from discussing their recent games to reminiscing their memorable adventures in Spain.

Suddenly, Ootomo interjected, “Hey! Did you know there’s a country in Asia that has been significantly influenced by Spain?” His tone was casual, yet there was a spark of intrigue in his voice.

“Oh! Are you talking about the Philippines?” Tachibana responded.

“That’s right!” Ootomo confirmed, excitement lighting up his eyes.

Ashito, who had been listening intently but quietly, suddenly asked, “I wonder if they have amazing soccer players like they do in Spain.” His curiosity was piqued.

Ootomo scratched his head thoughtfully before replying, “I’m not entirely sure. I heard from a friend who spent time there that basketball is the most popular sport. He mentioned that he didn’t even notice any soccer fields during his visit. However, one of his Filipino friends told him that her cousins used to play soccer, and her father’s hometown is known for having a lot of soccer fields.”

Intrigued by Ootomo’s insights, the three friends decided it would be an exciting adventure to visit the Philippines themselves. With the assistance of Ootomo’s friend, they managed to get in touch with a Filipino friend from Cebu who was eager to show them around.

Upon arriving in the Philippines, they were greeted with stunning landscapes and vibrant culture. They spent their days enjoying the pristine beaches, exploring local markets, and visiting breathtaking sightseeing spots, losing themselves in the beauty of the island.

One sunny afternoon, while relaxing at Shei’s home, they glanced outside and noticed a lively group of children playing a game. The laughter and joyful shouts of the kids filled the air, drawing the trio’s attention.

Curious, Ashito pointed and asked, “Shei, what are those kids playing?”

Shei followed his gaze and smiled. “They’re playing Takyan, or sipa. It’s a traditional game where you continuously hit a shuttlecock-like object with either your foot or elbow without letting it fall to the ground. You can also set a limit on how many hits you can do before passing it to the next player. It’s a great way to have fun and stay active!”

“Wow… that sounds really exciting and free!” Ashito exclaimed, his eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. “Have you ever played it?”

"Of course! It’s among the games I played in my childhood. In fact, I even got into trouble at my private school for playing it during lunchbreak. They said it wasn’t appropriate for girls, but I didn’t care. It was too much fun to resist! Would you guys like to give it a try?” Shei offered with a playful smile on her face.

Without hesitation, the trio agreed. Calling the kids over, Shei asked them to demonstrate how to play. The children quickly rallied around, excited to teach the new game to their visitors. Ashito, Ootomo, and Tachibana joined in, finding joy in the challenge of keeping the shuttlecock in the air.

While it wasn’t soccer, the game was brimming with laughter, competition, and a sense of freedom that made them forget about the pressures of their sport. They relished every moment spent playing.

Visiting the Philippines turned out to be more than just an opportunity to relax; it became a memorable journey of discovery. The trio not only unwound but also embraced a new game that brought them closer together and added a new dimension to their friendship.

I became a character! YAAAAY!!!
And yeah, I and other female friends were called to the guidance office for playing takyan... xD I'm not sure if it's the game that they didn't like or the fact that I wore my jogging pants under my skirt? Anyway, Catholic schools are so strict. hahaha

I also made the photo I shared above. Did it in less than an hour during my break time, so pardon the quality. hahah I just really like this trio... and Ao Ashi manga is getting better with every chapter.

Here are some progress shots of my painting. (I used acrylic markers for this)

Thanks for reading and see you around! (^^,)/

It sounds like this trio had a totally different experience in the Philippines and I think it's great that you had the opportunity to show them a local sport, I think it will help them reset their minds for their next games.

Beautiful drawing, thanks for sharing!

Luh sipa...I really remembered an embarrassing moment with this sport because I'm literally no good at catching that shuttlecock thingy with my feet. The ones who saw my weird playing really laughed ahuhuhuhu (and that's why I never tried again -_-)...and speaking of Catholic school—I also graduated from one (high school), and I really agree on how strict they are in implying proper decorum! (I mean, we even have to practice sitting without producing a single noise for many times because my schoolmates seemed to not get it—it's basically almost twenty minutes of sitting and standing repeatedly, ahahahha)...Btw, your fanfic plot is really nice, and gyahhh you finally made yourself a character! Thanks for sharing ('=v=')~♡

Huiiii ahahaha hard pass! Medg enough na ang embarrassment na akong na receive that time.

we were taught how to peel and eat banana "properly"

Ahhahahha hala! Why naman? Is there some kind of decorum in eating banana? Like it's just eating fruit raman...Is their kind of malice behind it?
