Working Out On The Road!
Well Hello There Fellow Technicians And Hivers!
Adventuring Out Of Town!
Now this is still a love hate relationship for me... The working out of town vibes! Damn sometimes it's a great deal of fun and other times it really isn't... Well mostly it has been fun but the hours... well I'm not fond of those! However, sometimes you just got to do it!
Today we went over to Kimberley, and it might not be that far away but we jumped away real early! A little later then we planned but I'd say we made good time!
Heck it was still a long day!
The Walk In The Park!
Okay so the first one I had to push was a Ford Ranger! The 6R80 transmission but that's not something that is seen as a problem... Those I can push relatively fast!!
The only problem was that the setup wasn't exactly our setup and when we got there it was a little bit of a mess but I don't think anyone expected us to be there except for the DB... Well we showed up and things did eventually start happening!
This was a quicky though, relatively... I had it done in under less than two hours and the problem that occured was the oil cooler... we had to find a Silverton to send it to for cleaning and pressure testing!
That set us back!
A Break That Shouldn't Have Been!
Well Bossman said I should take a break and wait for the cooler... I'm glad I came prepared with some of my own coffee and biscuits! Now that was proper! They even had a nice old car seat there that I could sit on! That was a hella nice break though!
However we couldn't really afford it at all! We decided on not waiting for the cooler and rather going over to the other car that needed fitting of a transmission!
The Headache!
Well I can't actually say it was a headache but this was the one that was going to take up a great deal of time!
Oh yes these are a bitch to complete! A real one at that too! The DCT-450 in a Ford Focus! Well honestly I'm glad it wasn't a Kuga because those do eat up a chunk of your time!
These too but not as much!
Oh I See Some Problems!
One can spot these a mile away and it's not always a great deal of fun working on a car where someone else worked! Really it isn't! So my bearings have to be in place with this one! Seriously in place!
Let's dig in some!
My First Concern!
Take a look at this mounting! It's a righteous damn mess!
This thing is going to bounce around in there while driving! It's not at all going to be a nice one!
Along with that they hooked up the motor to the mount with a rope! It's not even tied down and that is real schetchy! I mean real schetchy! What if over time the tension went away and the motor just fell to the ground?
Okay I suppose that would have been none of my concern right? But still!
The Nitty Grittys That Wasn't Needed!
So the problems aren't actually problems persay but still a time killer!
Whoever tore down on this one really went ahead and just pulled out everything that was in his way! And I mean everything!
Some things can be worked around and that's coming from me, I love tearing things down but heck some other bloaks just tear things down! Without a doubt and causing a mess!
Removing the water pipes was not needed at all! Not at all!
I Got A Little Worried!
Well yeah I would!
I suppose it was all for nothing really! They had everything sorted and under control! I got the mountings I needed and things really seemed to go my way... No catch though!
Things did go my way! I even got the lower transmission bracket mount as well! Oh this is going to be a lovely fix on this one!
At the very least I hope everything here goes smooth!
Some Nice Tools They Have!
Now this is a nice tool! This really is a nice tool!
No need for a engine hanger we've got a engine holder! You pop this tool underneath into the engine and well it holds it up! No need for something to dangle on a chain while a techie works underneath it!
I'll be honest that really did help a great deal! Oh it sped up the work! We need to get one of those to say the least!
Tired And Over It!
Laughs! Now that is my over it face!! I still had some left to do! The battery box and the airbox and some oil to add but I was on the edge of nothingness here! The job was almost done and it was almost time to get going on the road to test drive both cars!
Oh this was going to be a fun one!
This Ford Focus had some other work that needed doing but totally unrelated to what we did!
