The Failed Light House Adventure With A Beautifull Twisting End
Well Hello There Fellow Travelers And Hivers
Today was, well it was weirdly inviting in its own little way. We had a plan, we started setting that plan in motion and all went well until halfway through. It's not that things went sour completely, maybe a bit and then we poured sugar over it.
So the plan was to have an early morning, not too early of-course we both fancy a sleeping in. It was to be a breakfast at the light house in Mossel Bay near the point. Well on the point actually.
The Light Hous is something I wanted to visit last year, however I somehow seemed to forget all about it until the last day we spent here. This year I aimed to do much more than last year so I included the Light House in our little list of things to do.
With that said things at the light house didn't exactly light our way.
But First!
Our Gallant Dead Shrine
This was suppose to be a post on its own, I wanted to write something on this remembrance sight a whole while back but when I started to upload the photos I saw that I had only scewed and blurred photos.
I waited until I came back to get some better photos. And well here we are.
I don't know anything about this remembrance sight, I do however will be digging around the topic next year. Atleast I have some dates I can work with and a location which will prove use-full. But what I find odd is that the place isn't even named at all.
Almost as if someone wants it too fade from history?
Perhaps I'm wrong but shouldn't it have more information around it in the general area?
The names of those who fell during this conflict.
A wall that reminds me of a fortress like structure surrounds the whole of the shrine. A befitting burial site for a soldier.
Journey To The Top Of The Point
I mentioned earlier that we came to eat a breakfast and perhaps climb to the top of the light house and grab a picture or three. Well let me tell you things didn't go as planned, they never do, do they? Although it's not like the day was a complete mess, I actually approve of the way things went. Made for a nice journey that we probably would have missed out if the original plan stayed in motion.
I took this photo from where we parked the car, basically in front of the remembrance sight. The remembrance sight will be seen later on from above in other pictures I will share.
We were supposed to eat a quick breakfast at the little restaurant located up by the light house.
Because we parked the car in the only spot we could find open we had a short uphill walk to the light house, one that I'm not at all bothered to take. The problem would have arrived once we were done eating and we had to come down. I was still debating the fact if we should just roll down then. Luckily I never had to deal with it.
Halfway up the hill.
All the way up the hill, next to the base of the light house.
The Light House
Well we made it this far, at least we are to get rewarded now. We were greeted by a very friendly security guard who told us a bit about how things work here, a nice fella.
We could climb the light house and pay R70 ZAR for a person or we could have a breakfast and a drink and still pay R70 ZAR for the light house trip but then we would be getting the coffee or the drink for free.
At the end of the day you give away a little bit more than expected but you get a better deal overall.
Not too shabby and one that I wanted to use, naturally.
But upon climbing the final staircase to what we asumed would turn out into a feasting breakfast, well it wasn't. for the first ten minute we wandered around aimlessly looking for a waiter and then finally finding one we were told that we should seat ourselves and we will be helped shortly.
So we looked for a place, ourselves. And we sat and waited for around 15 to 20 minutes. So it's already close to half an hour of us waiting like two chickens waiting to be fed. I told the Betty let's be on our way then. And so we decided on having breakfast at some other place who would be more than happy to serve us.
Believe me it's not that I am some snobby little prick, I have enough patience but also the wits about me to know my time is being wasted. I can understand waiting a few minutes, even 20 minutes but waiting for longer than half an hour, no thanks I'd sooner go hungry then.
It wasn't all a lost cause, I managed to get a close up photo of the Light House.
On the way down the Betty thought it good to embrace a last photo before we made our way down the hill.
Sad to say that now I can't be using the roll down as an excuse.
The Betty posing for a photo on the rocks.
The Pathway Guide
It didn't take us long to decide where we will be having our belated breakfast, we both agreed that we shall be going to Delphino's to have a breakfast. On the walk to Delphinos I saw this direction sign, both me and the Betty found it worthy of a photo, and well writing this I do have an urge to go back and do some exploring in The Old Town, The Signalling Mast, and The Old Cemetry.
I can recall seeing The Old Cemetry. But I don't recall ever seeing any of the other places beside the St.Blaize Cave and the St.Blaize Light house.
The Rocky Beach
With most of the beaches covered with a fine sand, which makes for the best swimming environment. However some parts are littered with rocks of all sizes. It adds a certain beauty which stands out quite nicely from the rest of the beach.
I think most of the small sea critters thrive on terrain much like these. They've got a lot of small crannys to hide in when the big fish come swimming past.
It almost looks unforgiving, the land has some eerie feeling to it, water and stone can be a treacherous, especially to those diving in the area.
Finally Getting Our Feasting Breakfast
It took some time, halfway to our destination we phoned the Betty's parents and asked them to join us seeing that we'd be eating at a much later time.
The breakfast turned into lunch by now.
When we reached Delphinos my hunger was all but forgotten, the first thing I ordered was a beer and that on a empty stomach as well, fear not the food won't be far behind!
I ordered a big platter of Nachos topped with chicken pieces for me and the Betty. and it was exactly what we needed!
Now that's probably the biggest beer mug I've ever held. Meh the photo doesn't really add to how huge it actually was. But believe me it was a proper jug of beer.
Returning To The Rocks
As always after a proper meal me and the Betty fancy going for walks. Today we didn't have much choice than to walk, if it had to come down to a walk or a afternoon nap I think both of us would have chosen the afternoon nap. We sort of overdid ourselves with our breakfast/lunch.
I think the beer added a lot to how stuffed I was afterwards. But the car was some ways off and we had plenty of time to walk it all off.
What better way to spend that walk than right next to the ocean where we could do some exploring between the rocks as well.
The Fiery Rocks
Now there ain't nothing prettier than one solid rock that's filled with numerous colours! A bright red, that almost looks like dried blood, a flowing golden yellow-ish colour that washes out into a sandstone fade encircled with a grey iron colour.
Well this would be where I am fading my story out! Until the next adventure folks! Have a good one and safe journeys ahead!
I know I really need to work on how to properly exit, I'm struggling with that, but I guess it's because I don't do well with goodbyes!
Goodbye again!

I suppose that's what makes us unique, if we all liked the same things and colours and perspectives life would be awfully boring now won't it?

Thanks to you, the post is yours 😅
I'm confused about the breakfast options, why would you get free breakfast thrown in for the same price? 🤔
Can you actually go in the lighthouse or just to the bottom? Looks like you'll have to go back again, seems like there's quite a lot to do there
The breakfast wasn't free, only the drink would be free, whether it was a beer or coffee your drink would be free. I should have made it a bit clearer..
You see the thing is, it doesn't cost them anything for you to climb out the lighthouse and then you end up spending more...
Example an iced coffee was R35, so we ordered 2 ofcourse and that amount to R70 we then did the light house for R70 each... And that amount to R140... So we basically paid R140 for the two iced coffees. 😂☕

After trying Hoegaarden once in Germany, I have a weak spot for it. Our beers are shit, I can't drink any of them besides John Smiths.
In Germany? You saying they don't have that great beer over there? How ironic.
Anyways, I do have to say I love it aswell, definitely a favorite of mine. Although the father in law seems to disagree😂😂 but he brews his own beer so that is to be expected 👀
