Perfection In The Making: A Weekend Adventure!

Well Hello There Hivers!

Weekends Are For Adventures!

Just remember that everything in life can be an adventure when you have the right company tagging along and more importantly the right mindset!

So one thing I've learned in life was that if something is on sale it doesn't mean you should buy it right! Well not always! You should if you plan on making some work for yourself!

Exactly what I did prior to this passing weekend!

Yeahp, you said it! I'm at it again! Cleaning the car!!!

Okay hold up! Let me rewind a day! So I've had this idea to replace the carpets of my vehicle with a rubber mat, but like the interior matting not just the little mats! Like everything! Before you say I'm crazy I have good reason for this! FARMLIFE, yeah the farm really gets inside the vehicle! The grass and everything is a little too much to bear with and when I clean I want to clean with comfort! Hence a rubber mat would make it so much easier to vacuum up right!

Well it would, but in this case the idea was the easy part and the actual task the hard work!

OH, What Have I Done!?

I think I went a little too far! A little too far!

Well not really this was the plan from the start, although the plan should have been carried out by now. The weekend was a little crazy and I couldn't get to everything I needed to regarding the car and the mats.

I did however manage to remove all the seats and center console and all the other goodies, except for the driver seat, see I did plan ahead. I knew I wasn't going to be done!

I had a plan in my head but the plan didn't really work out as I intended, see most people would say it looks damn good and it does but I'm not quite satisfied with what I have, I want it done better and more perfect!

Hence The Reason!

Because I want this done perfectly to my standards is the reason why I removed all of the interior, see I want it too look as if the rubber layer I'm going to add in is actually built for the car and fits in under every piece of paneling!

I've done the passengers side and I am quite happy but I want to round it off better so I think I might be cutting a new piece for that side, then I still have the drivers side and the rear to do. Lastly would be the trunk.

Now I'm not going to show the cut out I have yet because I want to show it along side the completed and fitted piece! But before I can do that I have to test a few methods of melting and joining rubber together, of-course you can just heat it up but I don't want a mess of things and especially not a mess of things inside the vehicle! Dripping rubber can be a BITCH!

The Tedious Part!

Now it might sound simple enough but now I have to vacuum out the car every weekend before I jump in to work on the mats! It's going to be a sluggish thing to bear with since this will be something that is going to hold me up for the next few weeks over the weekends!

Super stoked for The Betty! Even though she got bored of helping me she still stuck around with me keeping me company! We shall see if the trend continues over the next couple of weeks!

If I can successfully pull this off, I might be able to do this on the side line right? So making a few mistakes now would be for the best!

When I saw the picture of the carpet of your Ford, I remembered my first car and what I prepared for myself...
I bought a car from a farmer and due to the impossibility of vacuuming it well, I decided to do something similar to you. Complete disassembly of the interior, removal of the carpet, hardened mud and straw and gluing of a new carpet.
I worked hard that long ago in 1997 :-)
And on another car, an Opel Astra, I independently changed the canvas of the sky in the cabin. and it was an interesting action. But i made it look nice...
You just need time, patience and will...

I work at a car shop and I have seen the guys do this, it takes quite some time and patience to go through all the screws, washers, clips and put everything back together, turn it apart is the easy part of the job but putting it back is tedious, congrats looks very clean 👍

Yeah laughs. I'm not done yet though.

There are indeed a lot more clips and bolts than I thought there was, the whole center console was sort of joined in together.. Had to take one thing out before you could the next.

But there has been evidence of trying to find rattles and so on, the mat should damp a lot of that as well.
