Whenever I remember about the perfect success story with serious determination and hard work, then I can’t be forgetting that of Dr. Obiozor whom faced a lot of challenges in his career but became successful at the very end.

His Journey To Self Actualization
Dr.Obiozor was our family doctor and also a very close family friend. He was just a junior resident doctor as at the year 2006/2007. He worked in unth doing multiple shift’s as a junior medical doctor, then sometimes when we fall sick our dad will call him to come give us injections. He was really a good man but had several challenges in his career. He had a problem in his residency program, being a junior resident under the department of radiology wasn’t even funny for him. He had gone for several residency promotional exams in order to become a consultant radiologist but he kept failing those exams. I remember him coming to see my dad one very day, he was looking so down and didn’t even smile or buy things as he use to whenever he comes around. That very day he came, telling my dad and mom that he would be relieved of his job by the next month if he goes for the residency exam and fails to become a fellow (consultant).

From what he said, you only have a temporal federal government job being a resident doctor and you will only be given a permanent job, if you successfully finish your program and become a consultant in your field within the limited time given to the doctor to have finished his program. This time he borrowed money from my parents to purchase more medical books, and also some money for the exams. I remember how he would leave his house and come to our place, staying in our visitor’s room reading throughout the day. I really admired his zeal because he was really hardworking and from all ramifications deserved to pass the promotional exam. Unfortunately he went for the exam that month and didn’t qualify as a consultant radiologist, this made him lose his job in UNTH(university teaching hospital Enugu).

He had already spent the limited duration of time given to him by the hospital to finish his residency program. This is when I then asked further to understand the nature of this exam, which I heard was the (FWACS) Fellow West African College Of Sugeons exam body. I heard that lot of doctors ended up being frustrated in their bid to become a consultant. Dr. Obiozor on the other hand became jobless, this even increased the tension on him. He had to go attach himself in small clinics working his ass off like a donkey just to make ends meet. He then applied for another federal government job in FMC Owerri (Fedral Medical Center Owerri) which he fortunately got the job. He was also given a limited time to finish his residency program in order to be given a permanent job as a consultant radiologist. We were happy for him, but this time he had to relocate from Enugu to IMO state seeing that the hospital was in another state. We really missed him as our family doctor, but we kept in touch. Sometimes my parents go to Owerri to see him and he also visited our house from time to time. He was given an additional time of four years to finish his residency program, this exam he wrote was twice a year and in four year’s time he was supposed to be done with it.

The same story played out again, and he got relieved of his job after the time given to him had elapsed. It was very painful because this guy had really suffered for this same exam. He still never got frustrated as he kept reading even after he got relieved of his job again in FMC OWERRI. Along the line we relocated from Enugu to Umuahia because my mom got a new job in Abia state university. So Dr.Obiozor happened to come to umuahia one very day to visit us, on his arrival we welcomed him so much. It was really good getting to see him in umuahia, then my dad also advised him to seek for another Job in FMC UMUAHIA since he was just doing small jobs in Owerri. Fortunately for him, he got a temporary Job in FMC UMUAHIA and we were so happy for him. I admired his determination and zeal as he would shuttle from IMO state to umuahia for work and still read for his residency program.

This time he went for the exam again but it wasn’t successful for him. He was just only able to correct his projects passing his Part 1. It was a sign of hope, but he still kept the spirit high, as he would sometimes go to umuahia general library to study. Finally he went for the exam again and fortunately passed the exam, after more than 8 years of failure and agony. He was automatically given a permanent job and was made a consultant radiologist in the department of radiology FMC UMUAHIA. Fast Foward to this present day, he is the Head of Department Radiology in Fmc umuahia. Also today he is a renowed consultant radiologist all over Abia state, having one of the best diagnostic centers in the state.

This story indeed shows that hardwork Pays and no matter the challenges you face, we should always persevere in order for us to become successful. Dr. Obiozor started from the scratch, and even after losing his job twice, he still didn’t give up. Today he is a consultant radiologist and a fellow of the west African college of surgeons (FWACS).
