MONOMAD CHALLENGE : Jon - Studio portraiture - 6 Photos (En-My)

Hello and greetings everyone here in the Black and White community. How are you guys? I hope that you guys have a great day. Its another day for a black and white studio portraiture series. This photo was taken few weeks before. A manager contacted me for a photoshoot with his model and I agree. He sent me some of the photo references and from there I had some idea on how to create a lighting setup for the model.

I challenge my self for this shoot and used a three lighting setup and without a backdrop. The studio was in renovation but some part of the studio was still usable. I took all my lighting equipment and made the lighting setup. I used the Godox 400W and mounted with a 35cm by 95cm rectangle softbox plus the grid honeycomb. Both left and right side of the model was placed with this lighting setup. Another light the main light, a Godox 600W was used with a 70cm parabolic softbox plus the grid honeycomb. This main light was used to illuminate the model just to reduce some of the harsh shadow made by the side lightings.

Foto ini diambil beberapa minggu sebelum ini. Seorang pengurus menghubungi saya untuk sesi pemotretan dengan modelnya dan saya bersetuju. Dia menghantar saya beberapa rujukan foto dan dari situ saya mendapat idea tentang cara membuat persediaan pencahayaan untuk model itu.

Saya mencabar diri saya untuk penggambaran ini dan menggunakan persediaan tiga pencahayaan dan tanpa latar belakang. Studio sedang dalam pengubahsuaian tetapi beberapa bahagian studio masih boleh digunakan. Saya mengambil semua peralatan pencahayaan saya dan membuat persediaan pencahayaan. Saya menggunakan Godox 400W dan dipasang dengan kotak lembut segi empat tepat 35cm x 95cm serta sarang lebah grid. Kedua-dua bahagian kiri dan kanan model diletakkan dengan persediaan pencahayaan ini. Satu lagi cahaya lampu utama, Godox 600W telah digunakan dengan kotak lembut parabola 70cm serta sarang lebah grid. Lampu utama ini digunakan untuk menerangi model hanya untuk mengurangkan sedikit bayang-bayang keras yang dibuat oleh pencahayaan sisi.

Meet Jon, he was a new model recruit by the manager. At first he was very quiet. I thought he was a shy person but after a few shoot he started to talk and ask questions regarding his pose and look. Actually he was a talkative person, but you need to star a conversation or some topic first.

Temui Jon, dia adalah model baru yang direkrut oleh pengurus. Pada mulanya dia sangat pendiam. Saya fikir dia seorang yang pemalu tetapi selepas beberapa penggambaran dia mula bercakap dan bertanya soalan mengenai pose dan penampilannya. Sebenarnya dia seorang yang suka bercakap, tetapi anda perlu membintangi perbualan atau topik terlebih dahulu.

During the shoot I realize that he already had his pose planed. After a pose and shoot he will slightly change his head position for the next shoot. And it will continue until he change for another pose. It was easy for me to take his photo because I can anticipate the next pose. But one disadvantage of doing this kind of pose you will have lost of same pose but only the head position is different. Its not that bad but then it will be more similar images.

Semasa penggambaran, saya menyedari bahawa dia sudah merancang posenya. Selepas pose dan shoot dia akan menukar sedikit posisi kepalanya untuk shoot seterusnya. Dan ia akan berterusan sehingga dia menukar pose lain. Mudah untuk saya mengambil gambarnya kerana saya boleh menjangka pose seterusnya. Tetapi satu kelemahan melakukan pose seperti ini anda akan kehilangan pose yang sama tetapi hanya kedudukan kepala yang berbeza. Ia tidak begitu buruk tetapi ia akan menjadi imej yang lebih serupa.

One thing that I learned from this photoshoot session was, I do not need a lot of light to shape a body and to contour the face. As long as the right angle was applied and of course the distance of the light from the subject is very important, then it will create the shape and only a little bit of retouch in editing software the it will be good.

Satu perkara yang saya pelajari daripada sesi photoshoot ini ialah, saya tidak memerlukan cahaya yang banyak untuk membentuk badan dan membentuk kontur wajah. Selagi sudut tepat digunakan dan sudah tentu jarak cahaya dari subjek adalah sangat penting, maka ia akan mewujudkan bentuk dan hanya sedikit retouch dalam perisian penyuntingan ia akan menjadi baik.

The most challenging thing during this photoshoot was the wardrobe that he wears. It was peach color fabric and it reflect a lot of light. It was almost like the golden reflector. This made me very hard to adjust the power at the beginning. And one more thing, the wardrobe was not ironed. It become a distraction for me, but I cant do anything of it. So we just continue the photoshoot session.

Perkara yang paling mencabar sepanjang photoshoot ini ialah almari pakaian yang dia pakai. Ia adalah kain warna pic dan ia memantulkan banyak cahaya. Ia hampir seperti pemantul keemasan. Ini menjadikan saya sangat sukar untuk menyesuaikan kuasa pada mulanya. Dan lagi satu, almari pakaian tidak digosok. Ia menjadi gangguan bagi saya, tetapi saya tidak boleh berbuat apa-apa. Jadi kami teruskan sahaja sesi photoshoot.
