The Bourne Bridge

The Bourne Bridge

Following on from my last couple of posts and my visit to the Buzzards Bay recreation area, as i have said I love seeing bridges and was lucky on this walk to see two of them the Cape Canal Railway bridge I shared yesterday and the Bourne bridge which I share today

here it is in the distance as I am walking towards it, the bridge I shared yesterday is behind me

and no those are not ghosts the long exposure I needed to take in the early morning light make the ghostly like figures

A little bit about the bridge
Source

The Bourne Bridge in Bourne, Massachusetts, carries Route 28 across the Cape Cod Canal, connecting Cape Cod with the rest of Massachusetts. It won the American Institute of Steel Construction's Class "A" Award of Merit as the "Most Beautiful Steel Bridge" in 1934.

The bridge and its sibling the Sagamore Bridge were constructed beginning in 1933 by the Public Works Administration for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, which operates both the bridges and the canal. Each bridge carries four lanes of traffic over a 616-foot (188 m) main span, with a 135-foot (41 m) ship clearance. Construction ended in early 1935 and the bridge opened on June 22, 1935. The approaches to the main span of the Bourne Bridge are considerably longer than those of the Sagamore Bridge due to the topography of the land. The bridge replaced an earlier 1911 bascule bridge (drawbridge), the Bourne Highway Bridge, of which the original approaches are still accessible. The current structure was built to accommodate the widening of the canal.

here I am a bit closer tot he bridge and some warm colors of sunrise coming out

OK this is not the bridge but a few properties I passed walking along, must be such a nice spot so close to the canal I could happily live there

I love the fact that you are also a great lover of the sky and that's one thing I enjoy most looking at your shots.

The bridges have been built for a really long time but they still look like the were made just few years ago.

I love the second to the last image more and you could guess it's because of the colorful sky view, hehe.

Wow, amazing shots. It reminds me of some of the bridges we have here. We have these small ones that are made out of concrete, but they have the big arches like that. I've read that the concrete style is unique to Michigan, but I don't know how accurate that is.

Another beautiful sky view with a different bridge. In the one photo I wish I was that fisherman, hehe. I see MA has adopted the style wind mills we have had in IA forever or maybe you have had them all along.

Nice colors! and the bridge makes a good backdrop. I like that last shot with the fisherman silhouetted in the foreground

There is a story here with dates, this is already very interesting. The color and shade of the sky above the bridge looks fabulously beautiful; when you look at such photographs, you understand even more clearly what role Mother Nature plays in the life of humanity. Thank you very much for the wonderful photos.
