Good Morning , I hope your weekend has started well

for today I will share a few shots of a visit to Neds Point in Mattapoisett, which is about a 20 minute drive from our house and a spot I visit from time to time.
I do love lighthouses and had planned to do a few trips to explore and take photos of them her ein massachusetts but the best laid plans of mice and men as they say, as of yet that hasnt come to be but maybe one day

a little bit about the ligthhouse
Ned Point Light as it is official called I believe is a historic lighthouse on Ned's Point Road in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts.
The lighthouse was built in 1838 at a cost of approximately $5,000, and named after Ned Dexter, a local farmer. Supervised by a local builder, Leonard Hammond, the lighthouse was constructed with a birdcage-style lantern similar to Bird Island Light found in Marion, Massachusetts.

All the stone used for the construction of the lighthouse was locally sourced, with most of it originating from nearby beaches.

Inside, Which I didn't get to see, are 32 granite steps that are cantilevered to the outside wall without the use of mortar. The original lantern used 11 whale oil lamps, each with its own parabolic reflector. And like other lighthouses I have read up on around here the Whale oil no doubt came from the New Bedford Whaling ships.

The Great Blizzard of 1888 significantly damaged the keeper's stone house, resulting in it being demolished and the building of a wooden replacement.

Following modernization in 1961, the lighthouse was reactivated in 1961 with its current 6-second isophase.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

now this is of course not the lighthouse, not far from Neds point is the Mattapoisett harbor and this gazebo, in summer they have bands play there at times but as of yet I havent caught one of those events, and again I will say maybe one day

I do love lighthouses

they do make for great photographs 😍 that last photo is aweseome!

I might have mentioned it before, but my wife used to collect miniature lighthouses. The last two photos are my favorites.

Lighthouses are magical places to visit for photography, last two captures exceptional with skies flaming light off the horizon.

What a beautiful little place. Is it just me or does that seem like a smaller sized light house or just the angle of the picture?
