mono Monday nature

Mono Monday nature

I hope the new Year is starting well for you all, the first Monday of the year is upon us and this year I plan to on most Mondays to share Mono images so let me get started with one.

These images are all from walks in the Acushnet sawmill here in New Bedford, as it is winter now not to much color there, and thus far not any snow which would perhaps add tot he beauty there, so macro or mono images seem more ideal at this time of year.

Starting with this spot along the trail I was strolling around, although there was still some greens in this view I liked the mono edit as it brought more attention to the fence and shadow

In the middle of the field I was walking around was this bare tree

I do love looking up shots in a forest, more often than not I may edit them in color if there is a nice blue sky, but when the branches of the tree are mostly bare as was the case at this time I think it works well for a mono edit

And I noticed a few trees where people had carved their initials into trees, sometimes alone, or sometimes a pair of initials with or without a heart, I used to not be so impressed seeing them thinking they are damaging the tree and causing it harm, but apparently most times it does little damage to the tree.

That said I have never carved into a living tree, and still feel it takes away the beauty of the tree.

How about you have you ever carved initials into a tree?

Now this leave in color looked pretty sad and dull, but I like h=the feel to this mono edit of it

And that’s all folks

Wood fences and bare trees always make good mono shots. I have never carved initials into a tree but I was with my father and my kids once when my dad did. We were going over a 4 wheel only pass in Colorado and had reached the summit. We got out and walked around and my dad whipped out a knife and carved his initials in a tree. I thought it was neat at the time. It was one of those unexpected moments. Something I would have never done but seemed appropriate.

Thanks
Now that I know that it doesnt really harm the trees, I do see how it seemed appropriate for your father to do it

have a great day

Very nice monochromes. That's something I'd like to do more of this year as well. The open fields and old fences definitely make good sepia subjects!

Beautiful shots! It's almost like a Spring day here after what we have had the past week and weekend. We took quite a few walks at the park with Jovi the past four days. It was really nice!

We started getting some rain today too. Just in time for us to go back to work after the break, so I guess it really doesn't matter!

I still haven't made such a looking up photo in the woods, but I love yours, JJ 😊

Always when I see special photos or photo techniques like this one, I remember that I wanted to try it too, but I always forget. Maybe I should make a list and read it everytime before I get out 😉

What stunning shots! Indeed, you are good at it. And yeah! It somehow saddened me when I saw a carved initial on the tree. It's not a good example either. I hope those people who are concerned might be awakened that it hurts on the part of the tree and its beauty might be gone due to it. Thanks for sharing this one. Stay safe and God bless.

Thanks so much
I still am not keen on seeing initials carved into trees, but read it does do any major damage to the tree
