Mono monday by the icy pond

Mono monday by the icy pond

Another weekend has flown by and a new week begins, as I tend to do I am starting the week with a few Mono shots, this time from a recent visit to the POnd in Buttonwood park here in New Bedford

I was just thinking about how I said a new week begins but on calendars of course Sunday is the first day of the week and not Monday and I remembered when I was young thinking that and going to he library to look up why

Yes I am that old when I was a teenager there was no internet or google if you wanted to research something the library was the place to go

I will admit i did use google to make sure my memory was not failing me and I was right so here goes explaining why

Calendar weeks typically start on Sunday because of religious and historicla reasons, dating way back to the time of the roman empire when Emperor Constatine delcared Sunday as a public holidayt in the Roman Empire.

and it is primarily due to the Christian tradition of considering Sunday as the Lord's Day and as such the first day of the week, marking the day of Jesus' resurrection.

These photos are taken from a walk I took after dropping my wife off at the hair salon to get her hair color done, which takes about and hour and a quarter or more, so even though the temp was only 36F at the time, lower than the temp I set as my if its colder than that do not go out walking limit, but i had not been out for a while so I went for it.

As you will see from these pictures there was a layerof ice on about half the pond
it was also quite a moody overcast afternoon so not the best for photos, I may have some I can edit in color and use for a Wednesday Walk post at some stage, but most of the shots when I took a quick look at them earlier were best for mono edits such as these I share now

the ice and cold was not botheringthe seagulls, ducks and geese, but it sure was bothering me, I was layered up and warm enough except for my fingers, as I wear fingerless gloves when taking photos.

The ice in the pond shows that it's getting cooler everyday, l think it's the case in this time of the year, but you took some stunning photos, that branch is beautiful as well, and it came out very well in the shot. greetings friend.

That first shot is downright melancholy, but very cool. It may have been a little chilly but you got some great pictures. The birds sure didn't mind the cold, but their bodies are better at producing heat than us humans! Really cool pictures, and a great reminder of why Sunday is the first day of the week. I had known all of that at one point, but it had long since faded from the old brain!

Great shots - that last one with the reflections is awesome. I also like the pond with the ice layer forming 👍

I'm not quite ready for black and white photography yet. Maybe I just lack experience. Very nice photos, thanks for showing them.
