fall colors at the Acushnet Sawmill

fall colors at the Acushnet Sawmill

At the edge of New Bedford’s urban North End sits The Sawmill, Sometimes called the Acushnet Sawmill, I am not sure if strictly speaking if it is in New Bedford or Acushnet oor maybe it covers both it is a a 19-acre former industrial lumber yard on the Acushnet River. This Buzzards Bay Coalition-owned public park protects the river’s health and offers local residents of all ages a beautiful place to explore the outdoors here at the Acushnet River Reserve

its a spot I used to visit often as it iis close to where our Daughter in Law used to work in a salon and my wife would go there once or twice a week to get her hair done, and while she was there I would pop to this park and take a walk around.

the lease ended and the landlord did not extend it, so the daughter in Law started working elsewhere and not doing hair so my wife goes elsewhere now.

But withthe fall colors coming out here and it being pretty cool at sunrise, I have skipped early morning walks, but got out in mid afternoon a few times to catch the fall colors and the sawmill is one of the spots I went to and will share a few shots from there in this post

I took a bunch of shots there but quickly edited a few for this post

Starting with a shot of this building at the entrance to the sawmill

and one of the paths at the entrance, all of these shots are probably taken inthe first 5 minutes in the park, I was there for probably 45 Minutes, my second of three stops to catch the fall colors that day, the first spot I visited I will share some shots of in next weeks Wednesday walk post, and the rest of the shots I will get around to edit and sharing at some time, may save some to edit and share in winter when getting tired of the dull grey days

at the back of the building by the entrance is this area, the the curved stone seating, I have seen a couple of times what looked like a school trip students sitting there and a teacher or someone knowledgable of the sawmill talking to the students

Very cool. That is a neat little amphitheater for them to give lessons on the history of the place. You are definitely getting some nice colors there!

Goodness. Those colors are gorgeous. The blue of the sky! We're in rainy season here in Panama, so the skies are pretty gray. I'm looking forward to dry season starting next month or early December so we can have blue skies again all the time! Thanks for sharing such nice photos (that would make great puzzles, by the way).

I managed to sneak up to VERMONT, and capture some of the fall colours there. Interestingly, inland was MUCH more vibrant, and along Lake Champlain, the leaves were not quite peak. I am guessing the lake itself acts as a heat sink, and the leaves aren't as cold shocked, yet.
