At Bat

At Bat

Good Morning all, wishing you all a good day, In a recent post I titled playball I posted some shots of a group playing baseball in Buttonwood Park and mentioned I may or may not have had success of catching photos of the batters with the ball in shot.

Well I did have success catching the ball in a few shots, but not with it just as the bat was connecting with the ball, so I will try again some other time but I thought these were OK to share

You may have to look closely to spot the ball in each of the photos but it is there

I never played Baseball myself I think we did have Softball at high school and I would have played sometimes but I never got into the sport like I did with Rugby and soccer

Now I wondered what the difference between the two sports were and found the following

In baseball the pitcher throws overhand, while softball players throw underhand. There are also two different styles of softball, slowpitch and fastpitch--while baseball only has one. Another major difference between the two sports is the equipment they use. For one thing, softballs are larger than baseballs.

Well in this one it almost looks like the ball is hitting the bat or at least looks lined up with it, but of course the batter hasn't even swung the bat yet

I think he was trying for a bunt in this next shot

and into the air the ball flys, and in this case it sailed nicely to a fielder who caught it and it was batter out

Those are some great shots! I think you did a really good job. Slow pitch is more common in like church league games and for the older people. You will see a lot of co-ed teams doing slow pitch. My brother in law used to keep score for the games so I would go to them with him.

Fun shots. I played baseball when I was young. And enjoy the occasional trip to a game but I have never been a huge fan. Fun cranking up the shutter speed to capture some action.

Ah yah that last one is the money maker. I found myself trying to locate the ball in each shot and then guessing whether it was a strike. The last one I can almost hear the noise of the hit.

So you did get some shots with the ball in! I get that you want it as the bat connects the ball, but still...you've got some really great photos here!
