Beautiful Sunday in Benoit Garden and Pine Park
Hi friends, It was a nice sunny day and I decided to go for a walk in Pine Park. This park is located in one of the northern neighborhoods of the city. I rarely go to this area, and I haven't been to Pine Park in a long time. This park is not really a park... Rather, it is a piece of old growth forest that was not destroyed when there was active residential construction in the area. This park does not have a large variety of tree species and shrubs, nor are there any park pavilions - it is just an array of forest inside the city. It's a place to take a walk and get some air.
But very close to this park-forest is an interesting historical farm park: a small park that once housed a dairy farm. In this small park, several old buildings have been preserved, and I decided to start my walk by visiting this park, which is called "Benoit Garden". This farm was organized by the St. Petersburg architect Julius Benoit. He built some interesting buildings here. In the center of the park was located a two-story wooden cottage, in this cottage lived the architect with his wife and children.
Nearby were built a water pumping station, cowsheds, and other outbuildings. Originally, this farm was called "Forest Dacha" - the area to the north of town was wooded. Now the area of the former farm has become a city park. There is no forest around this park for a long time: it is surrounded by high-rise apartment buildings. Only at one point this park-farm is adjoined by a wooded area: the Pine Park.
I walked around the wooden farmstead (now an art school is working inside), walked to the former cowshed (now a restaurant), admired the round brick silo tower near the cowshed. I even met one cow while walking: it was standing by the path.
There were other interesting art objects along the paths. I couldn't have guessed what some of them were without prompting. Fortunately, the information boards helped me figure out that these obscure structures were reading houses. From some points I had a beautiful view of the tower of the Institute of Robotics and Cybernetics, which is one of the architectural dominants of the neighborhood.
The main goal of my walk was to walk in the pine forest. Unexpectedly, this proved difficult to accomplish. When I went from the Benoit Garden to the Pine Park, I found myself in an ordinary broad-leaved forest, dominated by birches. I used to enter this park from the other side, and I thought it was about the same everywhere. But it wasn't!
It took me quite a while to wander the paths of the park before I could get my bearings correctly. As it turns out, there is a rather large area of hardwood trees on the edge of this park. To compensate, I wandered into the chess club and was able to swing on the swings. It wasn't planned, but it was a very nice bonus.

I had a wonderful time reading your blog post about your visit to Pine Park and Benoit Garden. It's fascinating how Pine Park has preserved a piece of old-growth forest amidst the urban environment. The historical farm park, Benoit Garden, adds an interesting touch to the area with its well-preserved buildings. I enjoyed picturing the wooden cottage where the architect and his family lived, as well as the cowshed turned restaurant. The art objects and reading houses along the paths sound intriguing, and it's great that information boards helped you understand their significance. The unexpected transition from a broad-leaved forest dominated by birches to the pine forest added an element of exploration to your walk. It's always a delight to stumble upon pleasant surprises like the chess club and swings. Thank you for sharing your experience in this unique and charming park setting.
Thank you so much for your attention to my post dear friend! Have a good day!
The cow must be the works of the art students.
That's probably true. Thank you!
