A snowstorm in the Peter and Paul Fortress
What's the best weather for a walk? Frost, snowfall, wind... Bingo! Pack me all of the suggestions together, please!
St. Petersburg was built according to a master plan, and you'll make a lot of effort if you want to find in this city the curved narrow alleys characteristic of the chaotic construction of previous eras. The wide avenues give you a perfect perspective. You can rest assured that the wind also loves these straight streets, and during blizzards you'll have a very hard time avoiding snow flying right in your face.
I decided to seek shelter from the snowstorm behind the powerful, many-meter high walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress. The Peter and Paul Fortress is located on an island, and in order to be protected by its walls, I had to cross the bridge over the narrow Kronverk Strait.
A little to the right of the fortress there is a passageway to the Neva River beach, and I decided to walk a short distance toward that beach to see how much of a blizzard was blowing over the free space of the river valley. The central walkway going toward the beach had been cleared by snowplows, but the rest of the paths were completely covered with snow.
I couldn't make it all the way to the beach because the cleared area ended. I stopped and took a few shots of the shroud of snow, through which I could barely make out the buildings on the opposite bank of the river.
I entered the territory of the fortress through the Alexeevsky Ravelin. The ravelin is considered an auxiliary fortification, but the walls, which bound its territory, are no less strong than the rest of the fortress walls. From Alekseevsky Ravelin you can enter the fortress through Vasilevsky Gates. Behind the gates begins the main territory of the fortress, there is a Museum of the History of the city.
The city's history museum includes many small museums of various subjects. In fact, the best thing to do in this weather is to turn into one of these museums right from the entrance. The few tourists I met on the castle streets chose to spend their time that way. In addition to the museums, there are several cafes and restaurants in the area - it was my choice, I was hoping for a cup of hot tea after the walk.
The wind kept blowing, and the snow continued to fall from the sky, but it seemed to me that behind the gate the wind speed was a little less. At any rate, I managed to find niches and other shelters to catch my breath and take a few pictures.
I decided to walk to the Nevsky Gate to watch the snowstorm over the Neva River. The Nevsky Gate is located approximately in the middle of the territory of the fortress and leads to the pier. The opposite bank was poorly visible in the snowy fog as a dark blur, just barely.
The blizzard seemed to intensify - when I turned around, I saw snow waves on the other side of the gate.
The short winter day was coming to an end. I took a few last shots, shook off the snow from my hood, and headed out for some tea. This is what I looked like at the end of my walk:

Frost snowfall and wind, not my ideals for a walk but you make it look quite beautiful on the streets there
Thanks for joining the Wednesday, I always love seeing all the walks shared from around the world, but as I am not getting out for as many walks at the moment because of feeling the cold I am especially loving the walks all around the world its like a virtual world tour
It's very beautiful weather - but not the most pleasant, no doubt:))) Thank you so much!

Why did you walk during a snowstorm? 😱
But the color white just enveloped everything. The old architecture even looks more magical.
We have a long winter, and bad weather almost every day:) Thank you so much!
