Threadcasts: Path To Enormous Success For LeoThreads

Ever since the new UI was introduced, in alpha, I have harped on threadscasts. This is something that I feel extremely valuable to Leofinance and what can help to separate it from the rest of the pack.

For those unaware, you might ask what is a threadcast?

This is simply a thread that is posted during some type of broadcast. Essentially, it is a "room" for people to engage on threads and talk about whatever is taking place with the broadcast.

People simply post threads under this top line thread much in the same way as in discord. Think of it as similar to the chatbox on YouTube.

The key is that threadcasts are on-chain. This means they are eligible for votes from other members, including those putting together the broadcast.

Now, as we entered beta on the new UI, we are starting to get more evidence at the potential.

CTT Threadcast

The team from CTT put together a threadcast during their episode today. This is nothing new since they do it weekly. However, today was a record.

Part of that stems from the fact that Leofinance entered beta this week. The frontend has attracted attention in spite of some bugs. That said, the microblogging feature is really starting to have an impact.

Previous, the highest threadcast was roughly 60 threads.

Here is what today's looked like.

Notice how there were 336 threads posted. There is a catch: it was only the first of two threadcasts posted.

The threadcast got so much activity that it ended up slowing down to the point where a second one was opened up. That one received over 60 threads.

In total, the two out episode of CTT had over 400 threads tied to it.

Of course, these were receiving upvotes throughout and the team promised, on air, to go vote for those who supported the show.

Imagine, for a second, if LeoThreads had a dozen threadcasts per day. Would all of them mirror this? Certainly not. However, there is the potential for 40-50 threads posted.

Unique Engagement

One of the keys is to understand the dynamic between those putting on a show and the audience. It is one thing to simply have one-way communication with the audience, i.e. people on show speak and all else listen. By having a threadcast tied to a show means two-way interaction can take place.

There is something else: people can be rewarded for their support of a broadcast. Sometimes, you see people supporting the content creator on YouTube with a superpay or whatever it is called. Yet, you never see the reverse.

With threadcast, the reverse is true. For example, I tend to vote those who engage in the Cryptomaniac threadcast. That means those engaging are hit with a decent amoutn of Leo Power. The same is true when I am in a threadcast and others are commenting.

This is a different type of engagement.

Threadcast Schedule

I suggested earlier that Leofinance should have a threadcast schedule on the main page. This would be a place where broadcasters or fans (more on this in a bit) can set up a threadcast and have people aware of the time when it goes live.

For example, on Friday, the CTT team could set up a threadcast and post the time on the schedule. This, people will see the broadcast is at 11 am pacific time. They also have the link right there (since it is entered when placed on the schedule) reducing the need to scramble around.

This is a serious tool for engagement. For that reason, it should be highlighed on the Leofinance UI, showing people that it is something special.

Thus far, we have talked about broadcasts. However, this can apply to anything.

For example, I set up a threadcast for the New York Met games. This is a place wherer fans can engage. So far I am either talking to myself or one other person. Nevertheless, the threadcast is there.

This could be done for any sporting event. There are a lot of EPL fans on threads. How come nobody has done a threadcast of a match yet? This is a prime use case.

Today, in the United States, we had Derby Day. A threadcast could have been done for that. Awards shows could also be included. A premiere or finale of a popular television show.

In other words, anything that has fans of some nature can have a threadcast.

Flipping back to broadcasts, anyone who does one relating to Hive should set up a threadcast. This is something that people need to be in the habit of doing. Of course, the community has to get in the habit of leaving Discord and joining threads. In fact, many should consider eliminating the livestream conversation in discord.

There is no reason why this engagement cannot take place in threads.

Support From The Leofinance Team

This is something that should be fully supported by the Leofinance team. There is a lot of HP and LP in the leo voter account for curation. It is obvious that microblogging in a centerpiece of Leofinance going forward. Yet, there are many who are supported who do not engage at all.

The Leofinance team needs to make a decision. Is LeoThreads an important component for the future? If so, anything that supports that should be supported. Those who are not on board simply should be treated as such.

We are soon going to have financial incentive for on-chain activity. Those who are holding Leo Power will receive payouts from the ad revenue. The ads are already in place. Now it is time to increase the numbers.

Threadcasts can be a great way to add pages and stimulate a great deal more engagement.

If we have a scheduler built in, this could be a piece in the foundation for LeoThreads.

Can wait for @hivewatchers and co. to come and kill all the onboarding efforts again in their holy war against the real community that's not living in the Discord caves with the social cannibal goblins.

I think Khal designed the second layer nature of the reward system to obviate a need for their supervision, and Leofinance supervision by mods would suffice. 🙏

No, they do 2% anti-abuse and 98% Power Games, and the most professional curation trail. Its high-level mining interference and has cost this chain enough users and momentum that the damage must be in the hundreds of millions.

They don't give a damn, because they don't need to and there's no incentive for them to do. There's a list of fake criteria that you have to follow if you want to stay eligible for mid-level rewards from their POV and Leo Threads will never fit.

Get enough users and thread and there is little they can do. When there are a few hunred posts going up each day, that is one things. However, tens of thousands of threads becomes a numbers game. As always, the more that gets on chain the less impact any single action, or set of actions, have.

They can scale like none else. Smooth is right, the reward system needs to be fragmented into a community-based system and cross-community downvotes have to be numbed. Two years have passed since the fork and Steemit has roughly the same number of DAUs as PeakD according to DApp Radar. Leo is trying to grow into the 4digits, DBuzz got nearly annihilated due to voting disagreements, all notable influencers left due to downvote issues, Vigilaty TV got HAMMERED by downvotes and their content creators put out the word about their frustration about that. How fcking stupid are those cave trolls to nuke whole communities and every single last influencer away and still think it's the right thing to do.

No, they are driven by bad incentives and are super powerful.

They get all kindz of Tokens, but drop them all like hot poop. Remember their main task beyond the 2% actual anti-abuse they do, is being a crony insider curation trail.

Another improvement would be if behind the scenes, after a certain number of threads, automatically a new thread cast is opened and connected to the first one.

For the user it shouldn’t be visible that this is in fact another post with comments on the hive blockchain.

The experience needs to be like in discord, only stored on the blockchain in the background invisible to the user

Interesting idea.

I would prefer they reverse the order of how the threads appear: newest on top.

Not sure if that is possible.

Even very if you could choose how you want to store them. As it is basically just a UI thing it should be possible
