Spotify On Leo?

Can we create Spotify on Leo?

This remains to be seen. There are technical along with copyright issues that could prevent this. Having a UI that is as robust as Spotify without having the content could be difficult.

We will have to see what the development team can come up with.

That said, we can have a bit of a trade-off. Presently, we are loading up LEO with music threads, i.e. songs embedded within threads. We can do this in a singular sense or to create a playlist.

The idea is to provide utility for those on Leo. We have to think of this platform as something all encompassing. While we do not have to be the tops in any one area, having a well rounded plate of offerings does help.

$LEO holders have a vested financial interest in seeing things succeed. For that reason, Music on Leo aims to serve this purpose.

Hundreds of Thousands

Let us envision like a decade from now. We will fast transfer ourselves to 2034. What occurred over the past 10 year regarding Music on Leo.

A decade equates to 3,650 days. This time will pass regardless of what we are doing.

We can focus our attention in a few keys areas. The first is songs. If 100 are posted daily, that is 365,000 songs that Leo will have, in the form of threads. To contrast, we are roughly at 4,500. Do you think that would open the door to more page views?

Then we have the playlists. If we do just 6 per day, that is 21,900. If each has an average of 12 songs in them, that is another 262,800 songs.

We are now up to 627,800.

What does this do for Leo? Consider the fact that each page view is counted towards the ad revenue. This goes to buy the token, presuming the same tokenomics as we have today.

Let us take one Dean Martin song:

This one has 1.2 million views in slightly less than 1 year. This, of course, is on YouTube. We might not achieve millions but we can attain thousands.

YouTube Replacement

We know that Facebook and X get a lot of views when embedding videos from other sources. While we are dealing with much smaller numbers, the concept is the same.

While it might be wonderful to think about Spotify on Leo, it could be more accurate to consider how YouTube operates.

There is the ability to build playlists but I am going to guess most people simply use search to find their music. This is then coupled with the recommend algorithm which then puts similar music in from of the viewer.

Could something like this be built on Leo? I would say it is a much easier task than developing a platform similar to Spotify.

Of course, as mentioned in the past, when polls returns, we can start adding them to each song, providing even greater utility for the community.

If there are over 600K songs on Leo, how many clicks per day do you think we would get? Consider if there are a few technical changes to the UI whereby this feature is highlighted a bit more.

Something like autoplay in the playlists would really take things to another level.

Look at this one.

One playlist with 45 page views in under a month. Imagine if we had 20,000 of these on here.

The point being, the activity is out there.

Feeding The Flywheel

We started the discussion regarding the Flywheel Effect on Leo. This is an important part of the process since we have to start generate some forward momentum. Music is a great way to do this.

By embedding songs, we have the ability for the entire Leo Premium community to participate. What is placed used the musicforleo tag is then captured and added to the database. Over time, we are going to keep building out more pages to give users a pathway to the individual songs.

Of course, we also have the ability to add a playlist. This is a rather simple process and can be seen by looking at this one.

Basically, we start with a thread, make that the playlist (using the playlist and musiconleo tags) and then add the songs below it. It is similar to a threadstorm.

Why is this valuable? It is an easy way to see all the music while also providing something that is simple to share with others. The link to this playlist could be dropped on other platforms to share with friends and family.

All of this is one piece that we are looking to feed into the Leo Flywheel. As the offering grows, we hope the momentum will start to build where the numbers keep accelerating. We are tracking what is taking place, providing fodder for marketing in the future.

This is how it starts. The hardest time is when getting started. It is like a snowball rolling downhill, momentum can have a powerful impact once it starts.

We might never achieve Spotify on Leo but we can seek to offer what YouTube is providing. Of course, we are using their database as the repository to draw from.

I thought there was a music platform on Hive already or maybe it's no longer in service? Are you thinking of posting just the wav or mp3 files for listening only? I love the idea and think it would be great and very popular!

We are using embed with the Music on Leo community. If you have an mp3, can upload to 3speak and embed in the thread or post.

Here is a playlist I just made. We are capturing the individual songs and playlists that are made.

Yep and it keeps building upon itself.

Playlists are captured in a monthly list. Then we can build other lists based upon genre, band/singer, etc..

You can hardly replace YouTube when all the songs are actually hosted there. If YT was shut down, you'd basically have links to nowhere, 404 error page.

Also, YT can block playing the videos embedded at certain websites, cannot it? People would have to click through to YT then in order to play the video.

I meant as a destination for music for people on here.

And yes, there is a dependency. The ideal would be for this music to be loaded onto IPFS through something like 3Speak and then embedded.

And that would be a huge copyright issue with most of music :)

And who are they going to send notice to?

I guess the copyright owners would approach it the same way as torrents - they'd fight people uploading the content and try to get money from or rid of the access points. In this case, the websites used to play the music. I am no legal expert though, and it would certainly depend on various jurisdictions worldwide.

See? That's your recent Thread and precisely what I was talking about:

But then it doesnt happen in 95% of the instances. And if someone picks a song from their country, it goes through.

now this would be a great thing. I hold a Spotify account I'd dump it for the #InLeo version.

We are doing what we can to offer more utility to the users of Leo. Songs are a great way to generate page views since each song is a thread.

No doubt music is one of the ways to capture the audience. I guess all hands have to be on deck. Could remember you once told me 'opportunity always presents itself as work'. I am a gospel and soul music lover. We'll walk together to see how I can be of help to the platform, thanks.
