LeoThreads Implementing Things Twitter Is Not

What is the future of LeoThreads? Actually, we should ask this question in a different way:

What is the future of microblogging on Hive?

The reason why the second question is more accurate is because this is exactly what Leofinance is building. Just like the base layer has long form content that any application can tap into, it also has short form (microblogging) that any front end can access. PeakD, CTP, Ecency, and Actifit all could build this into their applications.

Whatever is posted in Threads is on the blockchain at the base layer. The data is open for anyone to incorporate into their application.

That said, we are now seeing updates that are taking LeoThreads to another level.

Edit Feature

How often has people asked about the edit feature on Twitter?

This is something that was discussed for years yet does not exist on that application. However, not even three months into Threads and that is now available. In the latest update, the edit feature was incorporated. As you can see from the above image, there is the pencil signal on our own threads to denote it can be editted.

Why is this important?

To start, it provides something that many users of Twitter wanted. Years of asking resulted in nothing yet a few months with Threads and here it is.

There is, to be fair, a good reason why Twitter rejected the idea.

If one retweets something, that is tied to the person's account. It is not a problem if the Tweet stays as is. What if, however, the person who wrote the orginal Tweet editted it.

For example, suppose one Tweets how a particular party is awful. Then, after 5,000 people retweet it, the orignal tweet is changed to say they are not awful. Of course, this radically alters the message.

On Hive, that is not a problem due to the blockchain. Anything on Hive that is editted is noted as such. That is the first clue that something might be amiss. The other fact is that original entry is on the blockchain. Using an explorer like Hiveblocks will show what took place before the edit.

Here we see the immutability of blockchain entering. Thus, with Hive's microblogging, we have the ability to edit yet not change something without there being a record of what went before.

This is very powerful when it comes to social media.

Building On Strength

Hive can become a microblogging platform. This is something that is realistic. As stated in other articles, it is not Leofinance or any application that is taking on Twitter but, rather, Hive.

Leofinance is developing the capability through its front end. Other projects can do the same, offering it out to their users. Notice how we are not discussing rewards or upvotes. The strength is the account ownership on Hive and the immutability of text.

Whatever takes place in terms of tokenization is a bonus. It is not, however, the main focus. Few at this point are "Threading" for rewards. Getting an upvote is nice, just like receiving something on a comment. They are the same from the blockchain perspective.

It is evident that much of the Internet is senseless crap that really has little pracical use in life. We know this based upon where most of the traffic is. Long-form serious content has its place but it is not read nearly as much as "tweets". This is the generation we are in.

For this reason, we hear there is a makeover coming for Leofinance.io. This is going to be heavy on the microblogging, at least on the landing page. Since that is what most poeple are interest in, it is best to highlight that. Naturally, the serious blogs are still going to be part of it. In fact, combining the two actually makes it more likely that people can use microblogging to pull more attention to their blogs. Perhaps this is something that can be pulled into the new front end. In other words, maybe a recommeded feature tied to certain keywords could be created.

Either way, know need to keep focused upon what Hive's strength is. We have an immutable blockchain that allows for permissionless posting. The only requirement, once an account is acquired, is to have the resource credits to engage.

At the same time, the development team need to keep building the things that Twitter is missing. The edit feature is a nice step forward and, quite frankly, something that can be done on blockcahin. I am not sure the feature would make sense on that centralized platform since it is easy to change the meaning of tweets without any record of what went before.

On Hive, that is not a problem due to the blockchain.

It's important to note that the retweet would be linked to the block operation it was retweeting. If the original tweet changes later this wouldn't change any of the previous retweets as it would be a new block. Ironically permanent data makes editing content much easier.

From what I know, I think the edit feature does exist as I heard someone talk about it on a podcast. However, I am not sure if it's limited to certain people and I believe it's a limit of like 5 per some time period. However, I do agree with adding features that Twitter doesn't have. It will make threads stand out compared to Twitter.
