LeoThreads Idea: A Threadcast Schedule

As I write this, we just got the update which added polls (and tag search) to LeoThreads. It is exciting to watch things moving ahead.

We all know the list of features that are still needed is extensive. The team is obviously working through things in an orderly manner. There was even a post today that detailed how the next major update is going to include filtering. In my mind, that will add a dynamic to LeoThreads that is sorely needed.

That said, no need to keep harping on the same thing.

In this article, we will add a suggestion that could really make LeoThreads a nice addition to live events and other streaming media.

Threadcasts

To start, we have to get a bit of terminology down.

What is a Threadcast?

In my mind, this is different from a Threadstorm. That is a thread coupled with comments all applying to the same idea and made by the author. It is a superthread if you will. This is similar to a Tweetstorm.

Basically, it is long from content broken up into short form posts, all linked together as replies.

A Threadcast is a thread that is created for a particular event. We have seen them used for the Leofinance AMA, CTT broadcast, and Cryptomaniacs.

Here we are looking at a place where people can gather to discuss a live event; a thread for a broadcast.

Ultimately, I believe these can a powerful tool for engagement and a major use case for threads.

The reason for this is they are not limited. They can be used for any live event, including sports.

Threadcast Schedule

Here is where the idea of setting up a schedule on the site could be helpful.

Imagine, if you will, a certain event taking place. For example, lets say there is a NFL game at 8 PM eastern time. During the day, someone goes into the scheduling section. The threadcast is set up, the time and day is entered along with the link.

Over time, this could become a useful resource for people to find information. Under this scenario, if one is a fan of either of the two teams, he or she could enter the threadcast and participate. Think of the potential for meeting people with similar interests.

It is also a way to seriously increase engagement.

The thinking here is to have LeoThreads as an adjunct to events that are taking place.

One of the problems with Twitter, as an example, is finding information. Tags are great but only go so far. Even with Spaces, it is tough to find what you often seek.

Eventually, we could have most major events with their own threadcast (or multiple ones actually). As the user base grows, people will start to assemble around what they like. This could be done in drop down menu form, ultimately breaking things up based up genre such as sports, zoom calls, life streams and gaming.

In fact, how about threadcasts for different Ragnarok matches as they are taking place?

The point is to set up "rooms" where people can gather to discuss what is taking place in the existing game.

Just think about a threadcast on the first night of the NFL draft. People can join and discuss what they liked or disliked about their teams' choices.

Here we have unlimited possibilities.

Avoiding A Big Mess

One of the reasons why filtering was so requested is simply due to the fact that LeoThreads became like the recent sections on other Hive frontends. The content was just spewn, with no way to sort or decide what one views.

Having a feature like a Threadcast schedule means the site needs to be laid out in a way where it is accessible, but not overwhelming. The same could be said for polls. How about a dedicated section where all polls are located?

Not everything has to be planted in the fact of each person who lands on the site. Having menus help to keep things neat while allowing people to contour what they want to see.

In the end, something as simple at Threadcasts can be turned into a powerful tool for LeoThreads.
