Leo Shorts Will Change Hive Completely
One of the things I am most excited about is Leo Shorts. This is something that the team hopes to have live before HiveFest.
To me, this is something that will change Hive completely.
Before getting into the reason, let us look at what video does and how much it is of value.
Highest Valuation
When looking at the different industries, video is the most valuable. As we can see, it dwarfs both audio and gaming. Thus, as much as we might love podcasts, when it comes to money, video is king.
Taking a look at similar figures, here is how the market capitalizations of the different segments lines up. It is also reflected in revenues.
Notice how it isnt even close.
We are looking at a 4X-5X generated by video. This is something to keep in mind as we are creating content.
It is great to think of the different forms of social media. However, the media that needs to be in focus is video.
Tik Tok
Tik Tok burst onto the scene in the West. While it has been around for more than a decade, it only really because huge in the last few years.
The explosive growth has seen the valuation skyrocket.
Here is a chart from Statista:
It is now worth an estimated $65.7 billion. That is a large chunk of change for a site that offers short videos.
Of course, the other platforms were not going to sit back and wait. YouTube now offers shorts. We see video becoming a larger part of X and Facebook.
Ultimately, video is where the value lies. Leo entering this realm is vital.
The Impact Upon Hive
Some might point out that shorts are already in effect on Hive with 3Speak. That is true this is offered by that application.
There is a problem that plagued Hive from the start, When dealing with content, we have everything that is considered top line content. This is a negative since the reward pool along with other features tied to it all are based upon this.
In other words, someone posting 30 shorts a day is frowned upon.
Consider the plight we have here. It is a social media platform that, by its design, deters activity. That is one of the reasons why adoption is slow.
Leo has solved this problem.
Short is going to operate at the comment level. This means posting a video short is the same as a comment. Someone can do it all day long without setting off a single auto-voter or cluttering one's blog feed.
The content has moved down a level according to the blockchain.
Another component is the fact that Leo now has communities. That means that anything can be posted. There is an upcoming rebrand which, at some point, is going to change the URL of the website. By expanding the nature of the content, we should see more activity over time.
Shorts are going to be vital since people love to make videos of themselves. This is a great way for people to get a few quick clips going. People can do it on their smartphone or laptop, as a way to get some quick thoughts expressed.
The Impact Upon AI
One of the keys to watch going forward is the impact upon artificial intelligence.
Social media platforms are treasure troves of data. Elon Musk is expanding the features on X. At the same time, it expanded the terms of service to include AI. Users really have no idea what they are feeding that entity.
Of course, this is no different than any other. Zoom is taking every recording and feeding it through its machine learning engine. Now it offers features where people can engage with a chatbot and find out what was missed during the meeting (if late).
There is no room for miscomprehension here: these platforms are amassing a lot of data and they are not sharing it.
Naturally, this is crucial to feed the neural networks. That means those with the data have a huge advantage.
The more that is tied to Hive, the better for all. Nobody is in control of the data. Leo adding shorts is going to make video a central part of the platform. It also does it in a way that is unrivaled on Hive.

I´ll love to share videos in shorts. I have a Q, doing the video to be related with a comment, like threads, that means some videos wont have a big vote, or exposure, because they are not a post, so, the people that doesnt want to spam videos all day long, but also want a vote, they will use 3shorts, because it create a post to be voted, makes sense?
Absolutely, however some people on leofinance have a big following and will get rewarded with these shorts.
Also leofinance will do their best to reward people for using the new product at least at the start.
Then there are the big content producers on hive that might want to put out a small fun video, while not wanting to trigger the usual upvote trail they usually are supported with.
It is a nice addition to hive, but I wouldn’t call it a game-changer
I have a feeling it will completely change the ability to consistently add content. We cannot underestimate that on Hive.
For those that want to create 10 short videos a day or more, it could be very good indeed
Well if you are simply posting shorts to get votes, then I have a feeling you are focusing upon the wrong thing.
It has big time potential for sure. It also has the potential for MASSIVE ad revenue if the team can get ad rolls in there a bit. Curious to see how it plays out. I know a bunch of people that would come over to high to post short form videos if this was implemented in a smart way. Still shocked 3speak hasn't built this themselves yet they feel so stuck and I don't get why. Hung up on the deactualization thing and getting no where it looks like or at least missing massive opportunities like this.
I think 3speak has a smaller team and their focus is building an eco-system that cannot be stopped by anyone.
I think they would really benefit from some more business/marketing/sales minded people on their team.
They are building out the infrastructure. That is their focus. Hard to do both. 3Speak (the front end) became secondary.
I would expect more UI to pick up the slack.
Without a doubt the video will be the perfect medium to achieve even more great advances in HIVE and LeoFinance. Because like you said, it generates higher engagement than any other form of content. Now, I don't understand that the shorts are not going to be counted as posts but as comments. Aren't comments also considered posts?
Video generates the most activity on social media and adding Leo Shorts to the updates will be a game changer. Bringing it to the comments level is a great way to go, removes the limitations of viewing it as a top level post.
I think you are right.
Its easier to access #waves by Ecency than Leothreads, so Leothreads is properly not going to make a huge dent :)
We shall see.
I certainly hope so. I keep pushing my Splinterlands friends to engage more on the platform, since it is basically our form of X's everything app, but so far it has been only a very small trickle. The breakthrough is coming, though, I can sense it+
