Kicking LeoGlossary Into High Gear

Most of you are aware of the @leoglossary project. This is something that was started a number of months back. The idea is to replicate something like Investopedia yet do it right here on Hive and Leofinance.

Since that time, we have been going in a few directions in an effort to get as much content in there as possible. We are doing this because the goal is multi-faceted.

For those who are unaware, here is what we are looking to do:

• create a repository of information that explains cryptocurrency, finance, investing and money. We also are creating things that are applicable to Hive such as SplinterGlossary which is a treasure-trove of information related to Splinterlands. (Shout out to @gadrian for his efforts on this)

• provide individuals with links to informaiton that can be placed in Leofinance and Hive articles. Often, when writing about these matters, it is easy for us to lose sight of the fact not everyone will be familiar with the terminology used. Having links defining the terms right in the article is helpful.

• generate a massive number of internal links for Leofinance. This will, over time, hopefully show up in the search engines.

• provide the ability to link to Leofinance from outside the ecosystem. People can place these pages on social media or even link them in articles on Wordpress or Blogspot.

Now that we understand the main premise, let us look at the overreaching goal.

Most Indepth Financial Database On The Web

Personally, there is no reason to aim low. Why not shoot for the stars, as they say.

With this database, the idea is to build something that is massive along with very helpful. Over these few months, we focused upon building lists of terms related to banking and insurance. These might be drab subjects yet the terminology is crucial.

The desire is to keep things growing. This means that, in addition to the number of pages, we want to add a lot more depth.

For this reason, we are looking at integrating a bit of AI into LeoGlossary. @amr008 has been working with GPT-3 to try and train it on Hive content. Through a discussion, the focus is now looking at the possibility of training it to write content about each of the Fortune 1000 companies. We can start with the S&P500 and move from there.

If this technology is able to pull this off, we might be able to get a lot of heavy lifting done.

As we can see, if this will pump out 1,000-1,5000 word posts about each company, that will help us to really provide a lot of indepth knowledge along with something the search engines will be excited about.

Of course, whatever is produced will have applicable terms linked to other LeoGlossary pages.

Hundreds of Millions Of Links

They key is to link these pages as often as possible. There is discussion about adding LeoGlossary to the main Leofinance.io page once the UI upgrade is built. Here is where we should see a massive increase in the impact of the project.

To start, by having the database linked to the main page, the mapping flows a lot better. This is advantageous to the search engines, especially Google. From there, the design we implemented with pages listing like terms all tied together should help.

Another point is to get people to start utilizing the links in their articles. We are not going to reach hundreds of millions of links with only a couple people using the database. We need hundreds of people doing this daily.

As stated, the goal is to aim high. There is no reason why we cannot overtake something like Investopedia in terms of the value that is brought to the table. The advantage is that LeoGlossary is being built on decentralized infrastructure.

This is a long term process. Never was the illusion that we would jump to the top of search engine rankings after a week or two. This is not how things work. The numbers simply have to be there.

For this reason, we keep adding more. Whatever can be integrated will be added, especially with projects that have a solid future.

New Additions

Splinterlands is one of the most popular blockchain games going. SplinterGlossary is likely the largest and most indepth glossary for that game. As popularity grows, there could be a lot more people searching for information regarding that game.

Staying in the same genre, have you heard about PsyberX? Anyone who is on Hive should be familar with this project. This could well be the first shooter game that is tied to blockchain.

That group has expressed an interest in having their game as part of LeoGlossary. How about PsyberGlossary (or something to that effect)?

This is the advantage to something like LeoGlossary. We can build the database while games and other projects are in development. As that content ages, if the game (as an example) takes off, we will already have a footprint established.

Another step forward is the addition of LeoGlossary in Spanish. This is being headed up by @kolus290 and some of the PsyberX team. Basically, the goal is to get LeoGlossary in Spanish to encourage people to post in that language. It is a great outreach since that is the most popular language on the planet in terms of people speaking it.

Certainly we can make the case it is an untapped market for Leofinance.

What You Can Do

Like most things on Hive, it takes the efforts of many to make things successful. With LeoGlossary, there are two things that people can do immediately.

• Use the links in your posts and comments. This is the easiest way to numbers growing. Page links is an important metric.

• Head over to Google and type in "leoglossary" and whatever word you are looking for. Then click on the link from Google. This will help the search engine to become aware of the interest.

There appears to be a lot of exciting things happening. We all have to be patient and do our part. Things are expanding on a daily basis. We just crossed 2,000 posts under the account, which means we now turn our attention towards 3,000.

As stated, this is a long-term project meant to provide a valuable resource to the Leofinance ecosystem. We are still in the early stages only having started this a few months back. However, we are gaining momentum by the day.

We are seeing things kicking into high gear.
