Yes, it's so remarkable what splinterlands has done in hive and as you said a lot of people don't even know they are of hive.
Hive is so large that the future is clear where hive would be in later years to come as I used to say, slowly but surely and steadily.
We see clear into the future, hive is no competition, it's in a class of its own and moving at its own pace.
There is a lot to be said for operating in the background.
One of the biggest advantages to Hive is the account management system. This is base layer operation which Hive is very good at.

That's just exceptional and that's why people including myself wonder sometimes why we still yet to break even into mainstream.
Yet, I understand that these things could take time and we're in path - the right path.
There is a lot of development happening here and we just need a few to take off. Long-form content and blogging aren't really going to appeal to a lot of people. So the move from blogging to applications is something I think will happen. They will stick around so long as the application is around

Actifit (my fave dapp) just got listed on coinmarketcap and went briefly up to .40 USD value! Had a huge amount of people open wallets.

Nice! I look forward to that and will definitely check it out. @actifit is usually how I get people interested in cryptocurrency. If they say they don't have any money to buy any or I want to talk about how in the future we can make a living doing things like cleaning up litter, exercising, etc. I get around a lot in communities of people who hate the rat race, want out of the 9 to 5, etc. And whenever the opportunity is ripe I use Actifit as an example to open up people's minds to how much different things could be for us.

I agree if any one of the things you mentioned or more than one have a modicun of success, the implications for hive will be exponetial -- not linear.
We really are at a stage where increased development efforts are welcome and needed. I hate to use the old phrase because it sounds trite, but if we throw enough things against the wall some of them are gonna stick :-)
Splinterlands has stuck we just one or a few more. Doesn't even matter a whole lot which ones. I think a large adoption of HBD would be best, but a game or defi or 3 speak or Blank would all be huge.
