A Top 20 Witness Going To Shut Down The Hive Node And What It Means

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

People are starting that the Steempress witness node is shutting down. This means that it will drop out of the Top 20, freeing the spot for someone else.

In this video I discuss how we did see some changing of the witnesses this year, at least those in the Top 20. This is a natural and healthy part of the cycle.

There are many busy communities like hive cuba and hive Sucre that will gladly take the spot. That said I hope there are more nodes coming from Africa

I'm in South Africa and we have power cuts daily, scheduled, two hours at a time, twice or thrice a day. It might not work for running a node here. Perhaps other countries could do it.

Hi, here in Cuba we suffer from the same issues. Our solution was to pay an online server that we can access from here. You will only need to set up everything well at first, then it is even easy to access from your phone to do some maintenance or whatever is needed. I did a tutorial about it.

Yeah man, they had a great project with the whole Wordpress connection thing then just let it die. I wish I had the resources and the know how to take over that WP relay because it was such a useful tool for people to connect their home blogs with Hive. But yeah, they just abandoned it and kept reaping those witness rewards. Glad they are shutting down. I think I quit supporting them a while back when the plugin stopped working.

I'm not sore or anything, lol. Only made me have to dive into the Hive Engine outposts where I am now feeling abandoned by that team too... LOL... It's been a day, let me bitch, lol. I did get to go shoot my rifle and site in my new scope, so that did let me blow off some steam, lol.

I’ve already voted for your new node, I can’t think of many content creators who have put as much thought into hive and you are an interesting crew.

I vote for the people who I think try to empathize with different perspectives but put the integrity of the chain first. I think the best governance anywhere will be a combination of people with different perspectives who do their best to understand the other perspectives. Techies get a little more clout here but that’s because the nature of the community. We are built on a blockchain that requires technical know how and that’s fine, as long as they try to understand the rest of us and there is meaningful communication between techies and non techies happening

it's probably a good thing like mentioned below. Steempress was a great plugin for wordpress I DL for my WP but it was too late and never maintained. Them leaving means it provides active people contributing to Hive the ability to earn and manage projects.

Change is good, @howo did spin up their own witness and being an active dev who works on things like RC delegations and communities is probably worth looking into voting for again.

I second the dedication to hive stuff, I mean, there are many witnesses up in to top 50 who don't really do much if anything these days for hive but it is how it is. they are in fact slowly falling losing their ranks especially as new people come in and show people how to really support hive etc.

Governance is still a slow.. lazy thing that most people either don't know of or simply don't care, that too is slowly changing.. very slowly changing. It's difficult to change people mentalities and actually make them take control and give a damn.

Summary:
In this video, Task discusses the recent shuffling of the top 20 Consensus Witnesses on Hive. He mentions how some witnesses have closed down their nodes or left, creating opportunities for new people to join the consensus. Task highlights the importance of having witnesses with diverse backgrounds and interests to represent the community effectively. He emphasizes the need for technical expertise in the blockchain space but also acknowledges the value of non-technical perspectives. Task concludes by discussing the potential for new witness candidates to demonstrate their abilities and contribute positively to the ecosystem.

Detailed Article:
The video opens with Task discussing the recent changes in the top 20 Consensus Witnesses on Hive. He notes that there has been movement within these positions, which is a natural evolution within the blockchain ecosystem. Task mentions the stability provided by witnesses like Cherno but also talks about situations where multiple individuals may have been involved with a witness server and decided to part ways.

Task refers to the latest developments with Steem Press, where Hou Wu, one of the players, has chosen to take a different direction compared to the witness node and other involved parties. While Task does not have all the details surrounding this decision, he emphasizes that such transitions are typical in the technology sector.

He reflects on the changing landscape of Hive, citing the absence of founders like Ned and Dan, as well as witnesses who have shut down their nodes over the years. Task stresses the importance of turnover in the consensus witnesses, stating that new blood brings fresh ideas and excitement to the platform.

Furthermore, Task discusses the significance of having witnesses with diverse backgrounds and interests to represent various community segments effectively. He acknowledges the predominance of technical individuals among early node operators but highlights the need for a balance between technical expertise and community representation.

Task delves into the different viewpoints and mental frameworks that technical and non-technical individuals bring to the table. He explains that while technical witnesses focus on the operational aspects of running a node, non-technical witnesses may bring unique perspectives and cater to different community needs.

In conclusion, Task underscores the value of opportunity presented by changes in the top 20 Consensus Witnesses. He encourages candidates to demonstrate qualities such as dedication, loyalty, effort, and consistency to make a meaningful impact in the blockchain space. Task expresses optimism for the future of Hive and signs off, wishing everyone a great day until the next update.
