On ETH I saw miners fighting this on Youtube, before ETH move to POS they fear it would become a bunch of VPS and that validators will be able to change rules at some point to join staking pools so with less participants on the network, in this case the miners, there will be less nodes than miners, less participants more opportunity for centralization, I dont think Steem would be better than the current Hive with the little story that I know from those times, I was not there so dont know the details
