[ENG/ESP] Between seaweed and hope : chronicle of a Wednesday at the beach
Greetings, friends of #wednesdaywalk . Today I want to share with you, once again, a walk that I did on El Tirano beach, thanks to the great initiative of @tattoodjay.
We are in Holy Week, and this time invites us to dive into the sea to escape from the routine and the hustle and bustle, thus enjoying a bit of tranquility. The island, in this week, becomes a bit convulsive with the arrival of tourists who, in general, come to enjoy our eternal summer and the beautiful beaches.
Saludos, amigos de #wednesdaywalk . Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes, una vez más, un recorrido que realicé por la playa El Tirano, gracias a la genial iniciativa de @tattoodjay.
Estamos en Semana Santa, y este tiempo nos invita a sumergirnos en el mar para escapar de la rutina y el bullicio, disfrutando así de un poco de tranquilidad. La isla, en esta semana, se torna un poco convulsa con el arribo de los turistas que, por lo general, vienen a disfrutar de nuestro eterno verano y de las hermosas playas.
When I arrived at the beach, what I discovered there was a surprise I never expected.
Al llegar a la playa, lo que descubrí allí fue una sorpresa que jamás esperé.
A belt of brown algae had invaded the shore, swept by the waves until it covered the sand like a brown blanket.
Un cinturón de algas de color marrón había invadido la orilla, arrastradas por las olas hasta cubrir la arena como una manta de color marrón.
This unusual panorama had left the beach desolate, with a lonely landscape where only the fishermen dared to walk, gathering their boats and nets in a resigned silence. The murky water had driven the fish away, turning fishing into a fruitless task, a wasted effort. One of the fishermen told me that this is happening in a large part of the northern coast of the island: a tide of algae is arriving.
Este inusual panorama había dejado la playa desolada, con un paisaje solitario donde solo los pescadores se atrevían a caminar, recogiendo sus botes y redes en un silencio resignado. La turbiedad del agua había ahuyentado a los peces, convirtiendo la pesca en una tarea infructuosa, un esfuerzo perdido. Uno de los pescadores me comentó que en gran parte de la costa norte de la Isla está sucediendo esto: una marea de algas que está arribando.
But even in this scene of enforced stillness, I found beauty in the landscapes, a bit clouded by the mist.
Pero incluso en esta escena de quietud forzada, encontré belleza en los paisajes, un poco nublados por la bruma.
I traveled a few kilometers of beach and the result was the same, everything was covered with algae. I have lived on Margarita Island for nine years and this is the first time I have witnessed a phenomenon like this. For me, who loves the sea, it is a bit frustrating; I imagine that for tourists who have planned their vacations for a year or more, it will also be frustrating.
Recorrí algunos kilómetros de playa y el resultado fue el mismo, todo estaba cubierto con algas. Vivo hace nueve años en la Isla Margarita y es la primera vez que presenció un fenómeno como este. Para mí, que me encanta el mar, es un poco frustrante; me imagino que para los turistas que han planificado sus vacaciones por un año o más, también lo será.
This Wednesday, I share with you not only a walk on the beach, but also a reflection on resilience. Sometimes, life takes us down unexpected paths, shows us landscapes we never planned to explore. But it is in those moments, in those unexpected turns, where we can find the true essence of adventure.
Este miércoles, les comparto no solo un paseo por la playa, sino también una reflexión sobre la resiliencia. A veces, la vida nos lleva por caminos inesperados, nos muestra paisajes que nunca planeamos explorar. Pero es en esos momentos, en esos giros inesperados, donde podemos encontrar la verdadera esencia de la aventura.
So, as long as the seaweed continues to dance with the waves and the fishermen continue their eternal wait, I will continue to share with you these little pieces of life in the landscapes of nature.
Así que, mientras las algas sigan bailando con las olas y los pescadores continúen su eterna espera, yo seguiré compartiendo con ustedes estos pequeños trozos de vida en los paisajes de la naturaleza.
Dear friends, my desire to take a dip in the sea turned into an extensive tour of the beaches in search of a good landscape, with my heart full of hope, hoping that these algae that have turned out to be a bit annoying, especially for tourists and fishermen, will stop arriving. In my case, I will have other opportunities to enjoy a good swim in the sea.
Queridos amigos, mis ganas de darme un baño de mar se convirtieron en un extenso recorrido por las playas en busca de un buen paisaje, con mi corazón lleno de esperanzas, deseando que cesen de arribar estas algas que han resultado ser un poco molestas, especialmente para los turistas y pescadores. En mi caso, ya tendré otras oportunidades de disfrutar de un buen baño de mar.
