Fortress Haj Nehaj 🥰

I visited the fortress located in the town of Sutomore, in Montenegro. Its height is about 231 m.. when viewed from the road, the fortress is inconspicuous, when you really look closely you can see dilapidated walls....

My accommodation was under the fortress, and I passed by the road for a couple of days without seeing that the fortress was there...

When I finally saw those visible parts, I was looking for the nearest way to reach her....

I searched on the Internet, and it was still not clear to me where to go. That's why I decided to go straight towards it, from the side that I saw... So I'll ask someone along the way, where is the path to the fortress...

That's what I did that morning, it was very windy but I decided to go and find the way and see the fortress....

When I climbed almost to the bottom of the hill, there were houses... And just one girl walking her dogs.... I stopped and she explained to me that I should just keep going straight, there are trail markers...

My thinking paid off, I continued full of energy.....
I heard that there are snakes and that it is not very wise to go alone.....and so on...

Curiosity was stronger.. When I found the entrance to the path, it was between bushes but clearly marked, a rocky path that climbed and twisted between trees....

I moved carefully, the stones rattled under my sneakers... because they moved as I walked.... I thought about snakes, and if I would see one.... At one point I stopped to take a breath, when I looked in front and saw the snake's tail twisting and leaving 🤣
Then I walked even more carefully...
Soon the walls rose above the trees...

The fortress is huge and the very top is a wide plateau from which you can see Sutomore and even further, perhaps even to Bar....

The name itself is unusual for me.. and I wanted to visit the fortress city, which was built by the Venetians in the 15th century and rebuilt by the Turks in the 16th century... in 1877 it was besieged by the Montenegrins who liberated it, but then it was destroyed and abandoned...

Since then it was not restored..... On the top there are the remains of a church that is older than the fortress and it is assumed that the fortress city was built around it...

"Within the fortress, at the highest point of the city, there are also the remains of the church of St. Dimitri from the Nemanjić era, which once had two altars - Orthodox and Catholic...
The church is older than the fortification itself, and is believed to date from the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century. There is information that until 1868 there was a cemetery of both religions around the church."

The remains of the cemetery were not found, so it is not known how reliable this information is....

"Maybe it's a legend, maybe not. They say that even today, a song can be heard among her bedi: "Woe to you, Don't build, when women build you"."

The wind almost didn't blow me away... I still managed to look around, to sit back and enjoy the view...
