Environment, circumstances and believe is the root why many of us indulged in self medication 💊, because this very practice is one I can trace back to the days of our forefathers who believed so much in traditional medicine until into the days of conventional medicine.

Although as conventional medicine began to take over some part of Africa after colonization, which other parts of the world 🌎 were already enjoying, many families were still stocked to traditional medicine which they have been attached to ever since their era began due to environmental up bringing, financial problems and lack of awareness on dangers on self medication 💊. This is because in those days there were nothing like hospitals 🏥 where they are to receive prescriptions on medication 💊.

And as the 21st century began to expose our parents to the need to stay away from traditional medicine and embrace conventional medicine, they began to see the need to treat their children in there own way with little understanding on minor illnesses because of how they try to avoid going to the hospital for proper proscriptions or visiting the pharmacy to see a qualified pharmacist all still because of funds which has cost 💲 so many to have experienced danger.

As s mother of two grown girls 👧 now, I can tell you how important it is to stay away from Self Medication 💊 especially when it involves sever illnesses that we need professionals to diagnose properly before treatment. This is why self medication has a limit because there are some minor illnesses and sickness we can treat at home or by ourselves and others that we can’t jeopardize with.

As a mother who has a family I do not joke with the First Aid ⛑ Box . The first aid box is one that contains minor first aids medications for treatment when the issue arise because it helps to keep in control the first steps to arrest cuts, headaches, minor fevers, and some minor pains that does not last days. This is why anything beyond first aid ⛑ treatment is supposed to be referred as critical especially when there illness is one that has exceeded two days and has no improvement.

My daughter once suffered a sever stomach upset that started casually, and knowing her as one who has not suffered stomach upset just gave her some flagyl which calms upsets. Then she was okay for the rest of the day and until the next morning when the upset started again and this time stronger. So we did not want to take chances, but have to take her to the hospital to see a doctor. And she was taken in for examination which confirms she has gradually developed ulcer . How did this happen when she eats all the time I asked the doctor? He explained that in recent times ulcer does not develop through only not eating on time but due to some gastric acids the stomach releases.

However, the doctor prescribed drugs for my daughter’s treatment, the dose and the weeks to be able to arrest the ulcer at this early stage. Self medicating definitely has some limits where we can not administer any drugs because it can be complicated and cause more danger.
