Hive Ghana Weekly #51: Public Transportation A Hustle Of A kind🚌

Greetings friends of Hiveghana ! Hope we all had a successful and productive week. Wishing everyone a restful and enjoyable weekend alongside our friends, family and loved 🥰 ones.

Thank you @hiveghana for another awesome great weekly prompts, and I have chosen to write on the stressful and struggles of how public transportation is in my country Nigeria 🇳🇬. I see this means of commuting as a struggle that brings so much and extra stress to the citizens who do not have personal mobility called private car 🚗.

Its not just only on a Monday, but all through the working week, and even sometimes into the weekend. Mondays though is of another level with public transportation struggle because its the first working day of the week and everybody wants to make it to the office and business places by all cost and at an early timing.

The 8:00 to 5:00 working class citizens are the ones that suffer mostly as regards to the rush Mondays usually starts with after the weekend. And many of us whose offices are located on the Island from mainland suffer it most because of the distance between the island and the mainland. Many also have to leave their houses as early as 5:00 am to be able to make it to the office early enough due to the traffic we encounter in some more busier commercialized roads.

As an individual and a Realtor who works on the field, I sometimes does not need to resume from the office since appointments are usually made before hand with clients for inspection. So all I need to do is leave to the location where the building is situated to meet up with the client for inspection while , communicating through the phones with him/her. This sometimes might not be so early, but still I face the stress where vehicles 🚗 to my route might not be available sometimes causing and making me to waste articulated timing ⏱. And while waiting, others are joining which can lead to rushing the bus 🚌 when it finally arrives which can cause one injury .

The worst to this is how there use to be scarcity of vehicles once it rains ☔️. This is usually a big struggle that causes stress. How can one navigate being stranded in a park or at the bus stop. Not even knowing if any vehicle will surface . I have encountered this severally which is frustrating and bad experience because most times I will be forced to spend un budgeted funds
calling Private Riders known as Uber to save myself the struggle of being stranded in a park or bus 🚌 stop.

The things that should be done better are:

1️⃣ The government should put more effort in providing more mass transit since the once they have called BRT is not serving enough. It has some mapped out routes it does apply.

2️⃣ Bad roads are major causes of scarcity of vehicles to some routes when it rains. The maintenance of roads should be made a priority especially those that ply’s where there is more population dwellers.

3️⃣ The issue of traffic is a big hindrance to movement of public transportation. Some roads are supposed to be connected to overhead bridges 🌉 to enable faster diversions where necessary.

The above are my suggestions towards making public transportation more helpful to the masses in general.

Thank you once again @hiveghana for thie opportunity to express thoughts 💭 over this very topic “Public Transportation “

And thanks for reading friends.

This is the second time I’ve seen someone say the brt is not enough in Nigeria. Then it’s really serious, I hope your government does something about it.
