Time to Buy Rebellion?
We're fast approaching the end of the Rebellion set sale. We're already at the final Conflicts airdrop with Nidhoggr. After that, there's a few more weeks for the pack sales to finally conclude. And with this, there is a short window where Rebellion assets might possibly be on sale due to some Conflicts participants liquidating their held cards and packs. Chaos Legion on the other hand has been in a decline in value for the past few months now. And this presents a question for will-be buyers, is it time to buy into Rebellion?
This is not financial advice and just my speculative opinion regarding this matter. But I believe players would start to unload their battle wagon stakes halfway to the end of the conflicts and after it. This would be an opportune time to enter the Rebellion set. So what are the advantages of building up your Rebellion collection? Here's a few reasons:
Modern will have better SPS yield
Yes, it is already true that the SPS rewards in modern right now is a lot better than playing in wild. But imagine when Chaos Legion finally rotates out of modern? A lot of the current modern players don't have a sizeable Rebellion collection and majorly rely on their Chaos Legion collection. There would probably be a mass migration of players from modern into wild alongside the format rotation. This means that there will be a lot fewer players in modern than in wild, and the SPS pool will be shared by fewer people as well.
Rebellion will have a long lifespan in modern
Since Rebellion pack sale is still an ongoing event, it will take a while before it leaves modern play. After the main set concludes, there are talks of having a mini set sale before the launch of a new main set release. I imagine this would equate to two years or more of Rebellion being in the modern format. Rebellion cards might be a lot more expensive than Chaos Legion, but if you factor in the time that it would see play, I think it's worth it.
Increase in Rebellion card value
Given that Rebellion will stay in modern and that it is a lot scarcer than Chaos Legion, the card value should increase over time. It might fall in price in the coming weeks and months, but once the new main set is announced, I expect prices to pick up, especially the meta staples. This is just with the current playerbase. If SPS increases in value and new players get attracted into the game, the demand for Rebellion would surely be sky high as well.
The following weeks and months for the remainder of the year is an interesting time. I would definitely look out for competitive prices and prepare for the future.
