The Future of Modern Medicine
The modern format rotation is still a couple of months away. And while the current meta relies heavily on Chaos Legion, it's better for us to prepare on what could come in the horizon. Let's talk about the healers that will be remain once Conclave Arcana comes out.
I've noticed that tank healers are assigned primarily to three splinters, life, water, and earth. And for the three that are from Chaos Legion, they have their counterpart from Rebellion.
For the life splinter, Venari Crystalsmith will be replaced by Meriput Magician. It's interesting to note that the damage type changes from range to magic. Crystalsmith is not only a healer but a viable offensive unit as well with the addition of dispel, which was a perfect answer to bloodlust and martyr. Meriput Magician on the other hand is very defense-focused. She can also stand as a backline tank with high health and shield.
Although I love the shift to magic type, the damage is pretty low to make any significant difference offensive-wise. And losing dispel is also a shame since it was very handy to have at your disposal.
Next, we have the earth splinter. Goblin Psychic is an absolute beast of a card that it doesn't deserve the common rarity. Aside from healing and dispel, he can also stop enemy regeneration and even decrease their magic output. On the other hand, Satha Toledo is gets lookout as a second ability which is underwhelming, in my opinion. She pales in comparison to what Goblic Psychic has to offer. Truly, earth is getting the short end of the stick with these trade-offs.
Finally, we have a winner in the modern rotation healers and it's the water splinter. While Merdaali Guardian is a good support card, Anasth Soothsayer takes very good care of your tank. Aside from healing and cleansing the tank, she will also remove positive buffs from whoever the tank is facing. Aside from that, she also defends the backline with lookup and also has a high evasion rate.
In addition, I'd like to add Arachne Weaver for death because of its new ability, corrupted healing. It gives healing to all allied units with the drawback of reducing their maximum health by 1. This combined with scavenger and poison makes it a late game threat. I haven't really tried using it at maximum potential but I've encountered a few opponents that use Arachne Weaver and I must say it's impressive.
