Quora Vs Olivia
Eversince the release of the Rebellion reward cards, I've always heard about the hype surrounding Olivia of the Brook. They say that her Mimic ability makes her a formidable fighter to deal with. But I've seldom met her on battle and this may be the first moment where I truly saw her potential.
Looking at her stats, Olivia has low damage output, only getting an additional melee damage when she reaches level five. But she already has the Opportunity skill from the get-go and the Mimic at just level two. And I've seen it's power in full display in this battle:
This is a 53 mana battle with Born Again, Are You Not Etertained, and Super Sneak rule sets. It's a match between Obsidian and Eternal Tofu. I've decided to use Quora and take advantage of the Born Again rule set by placing two Martyr cards. My opponent used Iziar as a frontline tank while having an Olivia tucked in the middle of the lineup.
The opponent lost its Iziar at the second round. And noticeably, Olivia has already copied a skill from one of my monsters, Martyr.
The opponent is now down to the last three monsters by round four. My Quora has already racked up a few Bloodlust triggers but the Olivia also grew stronger by snatching Enraged and Double Strike abilities.
Fast forward to round 10 and the one-on-one match between Olivia and Quora begins. My Quora has racked some impressive stats but it pales in comparison to Olivia. She manages to steal Heal, Bloodlust, and the worst one, Forcefield.
Forcefield rendered Quora's attacks unless and were reduced down to one damage point. With both having healing, the rest of the rounds became a stalemate between the two. And then...
Saved by fatigue penalties. I was lucky enough that Olivia acquired the Bloodlust very late into the game and she was unable to significantly increase her stats. Also, there were plenty of misses thanks to Quora's high evasion. If Olivia managed to get her hands on True Strike or Cripple, the battle would have been over long ago. And there goes the weakness of Olivia as she is dependent on the available skills of her opponents.
It seems like Splinterlands loves to create broken card and mechanics every so often. When I first started playing, there was the infamous Llama and Kron combination, Byzantine Kitty, Yodin Zaku, then came Quora, and now Olivia of the Brook. Although there's truly no one strong card as everything has a counter, having these crazy cards make the game more interesting.
