Yesterday, the Splinterlands team suddenly dropped news of league chests in ranked play. Starting from the recent maintenance update, players who advance in tier for the first time will receive corresponding loot chests for free! Here is the list of the chests each tier:

This is a pleasant surprise as this makes ranked play way more interesting. This reminds me of the time when daily quests were a thing and we get to open chests for free. Even if the odds are very low, just the fact that there is a possibility of hitting jackpot every time you open loot chests makes me excited.

And with new game feature, I decided to revisit the modern league with my main account. I've been grinding glint in the past few months and my modern rank has dropped into the bronze level. So I rented a handful of Chaos Legion cards and about 50,000 SPS just to test out the new loot chest rewards.

And from the three tiers that I've unlocked so far, I was very happy with the reward cards that I've got. Nothing beats free. Buying loot chests from the reward shop with glint is also technically free, but this free-free.

I was already expecting to get all common cards but I happen to draw a Skyspire Leopard as well. With what I've got right now, I am very much looking forward to what I can receive for climbing even further into the ranks.

The SPS rewards are also good in modern compared to wild. I'm already getting more than 1 SPS per win while still in the silver league. But I've also noticed some stiff competition in modern. I do encounter players with lower card levels, but occasionally do chance upon opponents with very competitive decks. They probably are still climbing their way to the top ranks at this moment.

Overall, I am very happy with this new added feature in the game. I know Matt have mentioned in a town hall before that he liked the idea of having loot chests back in ranked play, but the sudden implementation of this feature is a welcome surprise. I think Splinterlands is going in the right direction and each minor improvements should be celebrated.
