My women in Tech

When I graduated high school, I went for a training in desktop publishing, thanks to my dad. He said, “computer is what Mr lagbaja now uses to feed his family. In fact, his wife is the one running the business now, and I believe you’ll do very well with computers, so you should go for this training”.

It was fun to learn how to use computers. I am a fast learner, so in no time, I was able to type 40 words per minute. It was very fun to compete with other learners and win many gifts. One day, our tutor’s friend visited, and said, “how about you include learning some programming?” I felt it would be interesting to learn something new, so I decided to give it a try. Well, I ran away.

The jargons were too many to memorize, the codes, and the red and green nonsenses, I couldn’t withstand them, so I ran and never looked back.

Many years later, my best girl had returned from school, and we were hanging out when she said, “do you know that software engineering is a very interesting field of study?” well, I don’t know about that because honestly, I knew nothing about it. All I knew was raising chickens, ensuring our goats are doing well, and cattle are eating healthy. I studied animal science, so I was not interested in anything asides typing research findings, and maybe learning a thing or two about science data analysis.

We didn’t discuss further, but everything around me spiraled so fast that I couldn’t block my ears any further. Everybody seemed crazy about the world of tech. My best girl especially was keen on empowering young girls and women into the world of tech, and well, I was part of the first set of people she pulled into that world.

From navigating the simple-complex world of social media to analyzing data, to learning programming, my friend did a thing.

In few years, my best girl had organized trainings, strictly for young girls, and now, some of them are doing well in different fields. One of them has grown to become a very excellent graphics designer, and one is navigating the world of data science now.

As for me, I am still caring for my chickens, cattle, sheep, and even crops, however, I’m learning how to keep them healthier for humans, ensure they are well taken care of, and ensure that the world can meet the food and protein needs through data analytics. That’s the world of tech that I’ve chosen.

Even though I still do some no-code tech like social media management, I’m gradually navigating the world of codes in python and this time, I have chosen to not run away. I really can’t run because it’s interesting in that world.

Some women are brazen enough to try the hard things that are thought to be for men only to pave way for people like us so we can try them without the fear of being crucified. My best friend did that.

It feels so good when I’m out with my best girl and she starts to talk about the jargons that I ran away from. She has singlehandedly handled many technical tasks and it’s really fascinating to me. She made me realize that nothing is impossible as long as you have a zeal to keep going no matter what.

Through my best girl, I met Azeezat, another tech-freak woman and oh my, I wish I started earlier. These women are doing so well in the world of data science, and soon I see them climbing up the ladder of greatness in this beautiful world of tech.

My best girl is a communication expert, a software engineer, and currently a badass data scientist. My woman in tech. Thanks to her, I am on my way to becoming a part of changemakers in the world of tech.

My bro is into tech too. And I know how it feels to listen to those jargons. 😂. I live in a different world with him when it comes to programming languages. But in other aspects we are good to go.

It really nice to see how these women are giving their best and also encouraging others too. I so much appreciate ladies who are talented and hardworking. Come to talk of those into crypto or tech. I doff my hats 🎩 🫡

Well, I ran away.

I felt this😂😂😂

Felt it deep within me as I've ran away from programming too😂😂😂

Still running as of now but it's chasing me fast 😂😂

Maybe one day, I'll decide to face it😂, but for now, we run...
