Dawn on Bromo mountain / Alba sul monte Bromo [ENG/ITA]

It's 2 a.m. Outside our small hotel about fifty more or less sleepy people are waiting on the street.

A column of almost continuous of Jeep moves on the only route that crosses the country. Every now and then some off-road vehicles pull over, pick up a few people and leave.

We are among the fifty people outside our hotel. Slowly our drivers arrive and we get on our jeeps. The air is vitiated by the exhaust gases of these old mini-firehouses. Very fascinating at least as polluting.

We walk the road in the dark, only with the lights of the cars and the only thing we understand is that we go down, then we walk a flat piece and then we go back up.

Despite the time there is a big mess. Plenty of people are reaching our destination, the vantage point on Mount Bromo.

Mount Bromo is a mountain of volcanic origin, more precisely it is the remaining caldera of an ancient explosive volcano that collapsed as a result of its explosion. New small summits due to volcanic activity are ered here. It's a point made very famous by social media that's why we find so many people.

What we didn't expect is that the vantage point is close to where the jeeps left off, about a twenty-minute walk away. But then why leave so early? If the view of the panorama takes place with the sunrise which is at 5:30, why three hours earlier?

Simple, the access road is only one and narrow and the jeeps will be a hundred and secondly, to ensure that kind cold visitors can have a tea or something hot at the baracchi near the viewpoint. In short, not stupid Indonesians!

So we wait 5:30 and then beyond to take some pictures. There is a huge crowd waiting, but despite this we manage to take some nice pictures. The place is really gorgeous. In fact, we are also lucky because the currently active China of the volcano decides to emit a puff while we are there. Nothing worrying, but it excites everyone a bit.

It's 7 o'clock when we leave the vantage point to get off with jeeps to the caldera and from there make the visit to the crater on foot. They tell us there are 250 steps, but they forget to tell us that first there is still a nice climb along a path. A nice stunch, but we arrive exhausted and satisfied on the top. The smell of sulphur is strong and in the centre of the crater you can feel gurgling. Let's take some pictures, but the crowd is coming here too, so let's go down.

All the way the dust and sand of the caldera raised by the steps of humans and animals fills our nostrils. We are forced to shelter with the scarves or scarves we have with us. It seems to be back in Jordani, in Petra, where every step meant sand that entreded everywhere.

Fortunately, the rest of the day is a long van transfer to head to the harbour that will take us to Bali. We take advantage of it to get some sleep. Upon arrival I take advantage of the time left for a massage and then for dinner. The alarm tomorrow will be just a little more lenient

Sono le 2 del mattino. Fuori dal nostro piccolo albergo una cinquantina di persone più o meno assonnate stanno aspettando in strada.

Una colonna di quasi continua di Jeep si muove sull’unica via che attraversa il paese. Ogni tanto qualche fuoristrada accosta, raccoglie qualche persona e riparte.

Noi siamo tra le cinquanta persone fuori dal nostro albergo. Pian piano arrivano i nostri driver e saliamo sulle nostre jeep. L’aria è viziata dai gas di scarico di queste vecchie miniciminiere. Molto affascinanti almeno quanto inquinanti.

Percorriamo la strada al buio, solo con le luci delle vetture e l’unica cosa che capiamo è che scendiamo, poi percorriamo un pezzo in piano e poi risaliamo.

Nonostante l’orario c’è un gran casino. Un sacco di persone stanno raggiungendo la nostra destinazione, il punto panoramico sul monte Bromo.

Il monte Bromo è un monte di origine vulcanica, più precisamente è la caldera rimanente di un antico vulcano esplosivo che è crollata a seguito della sua esplosione. Qui si ergono nuovi piccole cime dovute alla attività vulcanica. È un punto reso molto famoso dai social per questo troviamo così tanta gente.

Quello che non ci aspettavamo è che il punto panoramico è vicino a dove vi hanno lasciato le jeep, a circa una ventina di minuti a piedi. Ma allora perché partire così presto? Se la visione del panorama avviene con l’alba che è alle 5 e mezza, perché ben tre ore prima?

Semplice, la strada di accesso è una sola e stretta e le jeep saranno un centinaio e in secondo luogo, per far sì che i gentili visitatori infreddoliti si possano prendere un the o qualcosa di caldo ai baracchini vicini al punto panoramico. Insomma, mica fessi sti indonesiani!

Aspettiamo così le 5:30 e poi oltre per scattare qualche foto. C’è una enorme folla che aspetta, ma nonostante questo riusciamo a scattare qualche bella foto. Il posto è davvero stupendo. Anzi, siamo anche fortunati perché la Cina attualmente attiva del vulcano decide di emettere uno sbuffo mentre siamo lì. Nulla di preoccupante, ma emoziona un po’ tutti.

Sono le 7 quando lasciamo il punto panoramico per scendere con le jeep alla caldera e da lì fare a piedi la visita al cratere. Ci dicono esserci 250 gradini, ma si dimenticano di dirci che prima c’è comunque una bella salita lungo un sentiero. Una bella sfacchinata, ma arriviamo esausti e soddisfatti sulla cima. L’odore di zolfo è forte e al centro del cratere si sente gorgogliare. Facciamo qualche foto, ma la ressa sta arrivando anche qui, così scendiamo.
Lungo tutta la strada la polvere e la sabbia della caldera sollevata dai passi di umani e animali ci riempie le narici. Siamo costretti a ripararci con le sciarpe o foulard che abbiamo con noi. Sembra di essere di nuovo in Giordani, a Petra, dove ogni passo significava sabbia che si insidiava in ogni dove.

Fortunatamente il resto della giornata è un lungo transfer in van per dirigerci al porto che ci condurrà a Bali. Ne approfittiamo per dormire un po’. All’arrivo approfitto del tempo rimasto per un massaggio e poi a cena. La sveglia domani sarà solo un po’ più clemente.
