The Basilica of Santa Maria in Porto is located in Ravenna (Italy) and its construction dates back to 1553.
The façade is made of Istrian stone, a work that Camillo Morigia completed in 1784.
Camillo Morigia was an Italian architect and nobleman, born in Ravenna.
The staircase at the front of the basilica was built in 1783.

This place of worship was elevated to the title of minor basilica in 1960 by Pope John XXIII.

In 1944, during the Second World War, the church was hit by a bomb. It was later restored.

The basilica is connected to a huge building that was the old monastery, which today houses the MAR, i.e. the Art Museum of the City of Ravenna.

The imposing monastery adjacent to the Basilica was built in the early 1500s. In 1511 Pope Julius stayed in this monastery during his trip to Romagna.

Towards the end of the 18th century, in 1797 to be precise, the Church of Santa Maria in Porto was stripped and plundered by the French.

The white façade of this basilica and its neoclassical style immediately attract the attention of tourists. It is one of the places to visit in Ravenna.
