Morning run: After the storm

avatar

Apparently there was a spectacular lightning storm last night, but I slept right through it. I have done less running since I fell in the half marathon, but I need to get back into it to make some progress. My chest is still sore, but that does not stop me running. It was damp on the ground, but no sign of rain this morning. As I went out through the garden I noticed our big poppies are in bloom.

Selfie with poppies

I did my usual run up the hill to Fairfield. There were quite a few people about and a couple of runners. I was finding the running hard to start with, but it got better as I went on. I have had stiff and sore shoulders for a few weeks now and I really do not know why. Maybe I just need to relax a bit more.

Route

You can see I got quicker on the way back, but then that is more downhill. My next run will probably be parkrun on Saturday. Apparently a local running club are marking a milestone by helping out, so perhaps there will be more runners there. It does help when I have people to compete against.

Run free and stay well.

Stiff and sore shoulders might be due to excessive table work. Are you doing it excessively?

Those poppies are beautiful.

I hope you soon get rid of the pain

I work at a computer a lot, but then I've done that for years with no real ill effects.

Lol. Life is never about just one event. It forms effects cumulatively. Perhaps your body might acquire some deficiency lately and that way the table work would cause pain.
That's just a guess. Something else may have happened. Try to have good rest, please.

Have a nice day

I wake up every morning and my body is stiff and it aches. I think it is just part of getting older! I had to cut my workout short this morning because there was some other stuff that came up. I still got a small one in though. Nice job on your run.

I never know whether it is worth a trip to the doctor or if they can do anything. Maybe I should see a physio.

Yeah, a lot of the time it is easier just to get up and get moving. Maybe take a couple NSAIDs and call it good.

For such a great runner as you, it might be interesting to check out STEPN (if you haven't done so already)! It is a little bit steep entrance cost, but if you like moving, then it gives you an additional boost, and if we are lucky, some positive income as well. You can read more about it here as well: https://www.ipaddressguide.org/what-is-stepn-how-to-earn-with-stepn-how-to-activate-your-account-and-buy-your-first-sneaker-the-ultimate-stepn-starter-guide/

By the way, seems like we would be good running partners, because I normally end up in the 5:30-6:00 tempo per kilometer as well :)

I've not heard of STEPN. It seems to be expensive to buy in and I do okay from Hive anyway. We could probably run comfortably together. That's my normal sort of speed.

I think we felt some of the storm up here. Certainly things looked a bit wonky this morning. It's a bummer it was at night as I love lightning!

I can enjoy a storm if I'm not out in it. The other half saw the lightning, but I was dead to the world. Best I've seen was when I was in the Black Forest. Sometimes it would all be kicking off in the next valley.

Sounds magic! I don't like being out in it either but tread, seeing it from shelter is good

I saw some excellent stuff in Minorca once, it looked like it was directly overhead almost

I saw some poppies blooming here the other day while driving past this house. I see them there every year. The color is simply amazing.

Slept through the boom boom did ya? Do you sleep with a fan or white noise maker? Or just a heavy sleeper?

We have various poppies around the garden, but these have the biggest flowers.

I think I just sleep well. Apparently it was more of a light show than a sound fest. Maybe the storm was a long way off.

I don't want to get struck, but I do love a good light show!

Did you have any weird dreams? I'm sort of sorry I missed it, but I like to get my 8 hours.

When I read your title, I said to myself "what storm?!" It was pretty muggy yesterday though. I was expecting something.

Seems a few of us slept through it. I've spoken to a couple of people who saw it. Might have been those Ghost Riders in the Sky :)

I've tweaked my knee recently so I am out of commission as far as running is concerned. I hope to back in on it soon but for now I am just swimming to reduce the pressure on the joints.

I may do some swimming soon. I'm about to post my latest run and it wasn't too bad.

The storm was quite something. It broke over us here near Reading at about 10:45pm, was mostly dry, rapid lightning, very loud thunder and a sudden downpour ten minutes later which lasted for around a further 10 and moved on!

My colleagues down in Brighton and Worthing also had it about 30 minutes before us - it was a fast mover!
